Manchester artist Caroline Johnson is considered as one of Manchesters most prominent artists. She was born in 1947 and, by the time, she was 10 years old, Caroline was already known to be talented, in artistic sense of this word, because, even at that early age, she was able to produce interesting drawings. These early drawings, produced with a pencil, leave no doubt, as to what artistic style Caroline was going to become associated with in the future. While being able to portray the details of a landscape with great accuracy, Caroline also enable viewers to look at such landscapes through her own eyes. Caroline studied at the Harris Art School. During the course of her studies, she developed an artistic specialty, which is now associated with her supreme ability of viewing architecture as an integral part of dynamic settings.
She prefers to draw with crayons; however, Carolines crayon drawings are very colorful, even though their artistic essence can only be fully realized within the realm of graphic design. Most of Carolines drawings exploit an urban themes, which is explainable, given the facts of artists upbringing. She has always considered herself as Manchesters patriot and, even though she currently teaches Drawing and Painting at Chateau l’Age Baston in France, she comes to visit her native town a few times a year. In fact, even her French paintings contain the spirit of old Manchester, because artists vision of landscape often involves exploiting urban motives. Northern Quarter Manchester Johnsons painting Northern Quarter Manchester is probably the most representative of all her works. In it, author strived to give us a taste of what it feels like living in Manchester. The cloudy sky serves as a good background for the dynamic properties of the drawing.

The cars are shown as they move. Nevertheless, it is still possible for the viewer to identify their brand, which indicates artists supreme ability of grasping the metaphysical essence of depicted object, while seeing it in the process of dynamic transfiguration. There is a pedestrian on the street and, even though we cannot tell much about him, there can be no doubts that this person is in the great rush. The reason why Caroline consciously wanted to depict building in the background, as being geometrically disproportionate, is to increase paintings reflective energy. Despite the fact that Northern Quarter Manchester has certain properties of photographic reflection; it also maintains the aura of impressionism. Even if we did not know the details of Carolines biography, we would still not have any doubts as to what town she was born in. Because the Manchester is artists native city, she depicts it in psychological manner.
In other words, Caroline adopts a situative look at details of urban living, because it gives her a chance to allow viewers to associate depicted objects with authors emotional state. Carolines paintings of Manchester do not contain subtle advertisement. She is capable of drawing a backside of one of many Manchesters houses and we still going to be able to tell that this house in located in some of Northwestern towns. For example, Carolines painting Sunlight House – Distant View depicts Manchesters Sunlight House from very unusual prospective. Sunlight House – Distant View This was being done to increase the feeling of artistic casualness, which we associate with this work. In its turn, it allows viewers to be instilled with the spirit of old Manchester, when they look upon this painting. The painting is less dynamic than the one we have analyzed previously; however, we get the sense that author was in the state of motion, while producing it.

It is a casualness with which most of Carolines works are being done that gives us a right to suggest that artist has a strong emotional attachment to her native town. This is why, apart from experiencing purely artistic pleasure, while observing Carolines Manchester paintings, we also get our analytical needs satisfied, because every artists work can thought of within a context of intellectual puzzle. It will not be an exaggeration to suggest that Johnson is a first artist, who was able to incorporate a two distinctively different artistic styles, impressionism and realism, into her line of works. This is the reason why Carolines Manchester paintings express so much dynamism, while often depicting a static objects. There can be no doubt that such characteristic of Johnsons paintings has earned her the reputation of very talented artist, whose works represent great artistic value. In its turn, it explains the fact why Caroline gets to be often invited to present her works at some of the most famous artistic exhibitions, throughout the world. Colin Jellicoe Gallery in Manchester and Galerie le Petit Chien in France, are proud to exhibit Johnsons paintings on permanent basis and it seems that ii is only the matter of time, before she is going to be associated with initiating a totally new artistic style.
