Marijuana: Why Criminal? In a country where freedom is the basis of all social life one has to feel that all the laws are made up to protect them, but that is not necessarily true. When one looks at the laws prohibiting the use of marijuana it is hard to see why it is needed. There are a few basic reasons why marijuana should be legal, and although there are nay sayers, no one can deny facts. People who try to protest the use of marijuana usually have not done their research on the subject.
In this essay, I will present you the facts so you the reader can make your own decisions. When you watch the news there are many stories that involve marijuana use, and violence such as the story presented in the New York times regarding a death directly related to marijuana. The part the media conveniently leaves out is that, neither the offender or the victim were actually on the drug. The violence occurred because of money and te illegal trade of marijuana, something that could NOT happen if the government had control over marijuana.
Trade between person to person would not occur because, within the law, it would be assessable. Also, it has been rumored for many years that drugs cause one to be violence, but that is not true with marijuana. The Essay on American Drug Laws Do They Help Or Hurt
American Drug Laws: Do They Help or Hurt? I believe the drug laws are in serious need of reform. We tend to forget that alcohol is a drug and that at one time it was prohibited without success. Also, I believe that a civil body of government rather than a criminal one should regulate drug use. It is a social problem, not a criminal one. As a largely victimless crime they should not have their ...
I? ve heard it, but what exactly does it mean? It means that people say that marijuana leads to harder drugs, but this? fact? has been -proved wrong over and over. Although some drug users did smoke marijuana before harder drugs, that is just a coincidence. There is absolutely no chemical that causes further addiction. The choice to use harsher drugs is a totally mental decision. People talk all the time about the cost of drugs, how expensive they are to keep illegal, and to buy illegally. If they legalized marijuana there would be such positive financial feedback for the country.
Right now we spend our money on keeping marijuana illegal, but if it were legal the money could double, and could go to support a working drug protection program. Controlling marijuana is very hard for the police, but if it were legal it wouldn? t be. It would be protected but the government much like alcohol and tobacco. The laws regarding the sales and use of marijuana would be set like alcohol, and although there may be a select few that may break the laws, there will be no more offenders then there are that break the alcohol laws. Speaking of alcohol, did you know it is more dangerous the marijuana. Alcohol causes violence.
It takes 5 times the amount of alcohol it takes to get drunk to kill you, but it takes 40, 000 times the amount of marijuana. There for it is not nearly as lethal then substances that we already have legal. One of the most valid un arguable reasons for legalizing marijuana is Medicinal uses. Marijuana has been proved over and over to help Cancer patients and Aids patient survive, the awful diseases that they suffer from. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) published a report in response to the White House’s request for a review of scientific information about marijuana’s medical uses.
This report was informative and straightforward, and states the clear conclusion that scientific evidence indicates the therapeutic effects of ‘cannabinoid drugs, primarily THC, for pain relief, control of nausea and vomiting, and appetite stimulation. ? Why should the government prevent the use of such a wonderful healing power. In conclusion I would like to ask you to make your own decision not on what I just told you do your own research. Find out the facts, and when you do, take a long hard look at the laws in this country.
