Martha’s connection to Rashid was very strong. Martha and Rashid were happily married and very much in love with each other. Martha and Rashid have two children named Tony who is 15, and Marie who is 13 both born in Canada. Martha was born in Ontario but moved to British Columbia when she married Rashid. Martha met Rashid during her high school years. Martha and Rashid were married in a Roman Catholic Church. However Rashid was from a different religious view, which was of Moslem Faith. After the Roman Catholic marriage, Martha agreed to marry Rashid in Pakistan as well and had a Moslem Ceremony. After marriage Martha and Rashid tried to have babies but it was incredibly hard for Martha to get pregnant. Eventually Martha finally became pregnant at the age of 28 and gave birth to her first born, Tony. Two years later she became pregnant again and gave birth to her second child, Marie. Martha stated that, “Her husband was a loving, caring man, who always made sure she was taken care of.” With this being said it is obvious that the relationship was healthy and normal and that there was a strong connection between the two.
Martha’s Relationship with Tony
Martha and Tony relationship is tense. Tony is angry with his mother for several reasons. Tony is extremely angry towards Martha because of the incarceration and the shame that she brought upon their family. Tony is embarrassed that his mother is in prison for trafficking drugs. In Tony’s opinion they should have kept her incarceration a secret and that him and his sister Marie could of helped to have their mother release. However, news got out about Tony’s mother and Tony got into a fistfight because of the horrible remarks made towards his mother at school. Another reason why Tony has a tense relationship with his mother is because she gave her parental rights to Federico Quintana to watch over him and his sister while is she in prison. One other reason why this relationship is tense is because Martha is also angry with her son because he did not tell her that Federico wasn’t living with them in the household and made her believe that Federico was living in the home all along.

Martha’s relationship to her Daughter
Martha and Marie’s relationship is tense. Marie is angry with her mother for the same reasons Tony is. Marie believed that her mothers incarceration should have been kept a secret and that her and her brother Tony would of helped her get released from prison. Marie is extremely devastated by the arrest of her mother. Marie feels abandoned by her mother because of being arrested. In addition, Marie is concerned that what her mother did will ruin their family completely. Marie is also apprehensive because she might end up in foster care and that she will never get to see her mother or her brother again because of what Martha’s incarceration for trafficking drugs.
Martha’s relationship to Frederico
In the beginning of this relationship the connection between Martha and Federico was strong since she gave Federico guardianship over her children until Martha gets out of prison. Unfortunately, the connection is now tense due to the fact that Martha found out that Federico was not in fact living in the same house as her children as she thought to be. Martha is extremely angry with Federico and Tony for making her believe that he was watching and living with her children. Martha had found out that the two kids were living unsupervised because of the numerous amounts of absences and declining grades of her children. The Ministry of Children and Family Development had noticed these patterns of attendance and grades. This is when they began to bring attention to the situation. Marie had also confirmed to the school social worker about her current living situation, and admitted that her mother was in fact in prison.

Martha’s connection with Carmen appears to be weak. Carmen can not help Martha take care of Tony and Marie because Carmen is already taking care of other grandchildren while Martha’s sister is at work. Unfortunately it would be impossible for Carmen to help Martha even just a little bit because the rest of Martha’s family still reside near Hamilton, Ontario.
