In the lectures, Tepeyac by Sandra Cisneros and Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya the main theme is to deal with a religious thematic, shown in different ways because of different socio-cultural backgrounds. The comparative analysis is used in order to give the main purpose which refers to establish where there would be a similarity or a difference in the treat of the same thematic in both authors. The variables to be analyzed are perspective about religion and representations of those perspectives into the text. In Bless Me Ultima, the perspective about religion is stated by means of the catholic religion. ” We managed to get through the final week of catechism lesson.” (Anaya, Rudolfo).
The cite shows a group of children who are involved in certain environment of Catholicism.
In addition, Rudolfo Anaya states something that is very important in almost every religion, specially in Catholicism, and this is the concept that the material things disappear at the pass of time, but it is the soul what last forever. It can be inferred that the children have developed a sense of religion, since Catholicism is imposed by their families, taking them to cathecism. The perspective of religion manages the soul. As a very important part of the catholic ideals, the soul represent values, ideals, costumes, and traditions that compared to material things, those valuable concepts are what make us more or less valuable as a person. So, what it can be inferred is that the children have developed a sense of religion, since Catholicism is imposed by their families, taking them to cathecism.
The Essay on ''Bless Me, Ultima'' By Rudolfo Anaya
In Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, the golden carp is a symbol that contributes to a theme in the novel. The golden carp represents many things. It symbolizes a magical religious order not related to Catholicism. Antonio learns about the fish’s presence when Samuel tells him about some God in the waters. When Antonio finally is shown to the golden carp god by Cico, he is scared and doesn’t ...
The perspective in this case manages an important aspect, the soul. As a very important part of the catholic ideals, the soul represent our values, ideals, costumes, traditions, etc, that compared to material things, those valuable concepts are what make us more or less valuable as a person. The content of Rudolfo Anaya’s work has several positive and negative representations in the text that are mainly exposed by Anaya trough figures of Florence and the rest of the children. In the attitude of Florence, an orphan boy it’s seen a negative perspective, he felt kind of betrayed by God. Since, as we say before, the religion was imposed, he doesn’t feel comfortable. On the other hand we have a positive perspective that belongs to the rest of the children, which are shown by Anaya as a group of infants apparently convinced of the religion they profess.
Several inferences are involved in the subject related to Bless Me, Ultima. The case of Florence is a negative representation of the ideal or perspective about religion, because he is relating a bad experience with the main figure of Catholicism, attributing this fact to the desires of God. The positive representation is just the impression that at first sight the group of children gives us. We can observe that they follow some rules that could be exaggerated such those of the punishment in the game of the priest, but it still is a positive representation, not a positive behavior. Turning now into Tepeyac, we are going to analyze this Cisneros’ text in both subjects. The perspective shown in the history is clear from the character called Abuelito.
It is said about him that he does not believe in the miracle made by San Diego. Also, the presence of the Abuelito en that zone of the Basilica is because he manage some business and he has to control them. Instead of seeing religion like a value, it is seen like a business. Trough the Abuelito, it is inferred that he is not touched by the miracle of Juan Diego, which involves the perspective about religion. It is more than clear that Abuelito doesn’t believe in religion, making his presence in the religious place just necessary for the negotiations, not because some value like faith and religion, that could be present in the character. The second variable to be analyzed in Tepeyac is the representations of the perspective shown in the text.
The Essay on Muslim Doctrines God Religions Things
Muslim Doctrines The Islamic belief is one of the the largest in the world. The other two religions are Christianity and Judaism. All three of these religions are monotheistic, which means they all believe in one God. And they all also believe in the same God. While the other two religions may call God, God, the Muslims do not. They refer to God as Allah. The word Islam means to surrender. It ...
When after a long time passed, the narrator of Tepeyac refers to herself as the only person who remember all the things involved in the zone of the Tepeyac, she refers to her memories as something special because everybody else has forgotten everything related. In order to enforce the representations of this perspective, the narrator added that all the places that once were opened and functioning, now all of them have changed from owners, even the Basilica is closed. Taking into account the successes, it can be inferred something very representative of the perspective about religion. At the moment author Cisneros represent the narrator as the only person which has remembered what Tepeyac used to be, she is talking about some more spiritual, something called memories that last more than material things, that as we could observe, were all those buildings. So what states untouchable is the memory of the place Tepeyac used to be.
So here religion has a representation in the spiritual beliefs and thoughts of the narrator, who conserved those thoughts, which are the things most valuable in the pass of the time. Now we have exposed all the inferences based on what both authors present in their texts, let’s establish a direct comparison between both works. Referring to the first variable, perspective about religion, there is a similarity between Anaya and Cisneros’s materials. While Anaya refers to the soul as a thing that remains and that is very important in the development of all human beings and in the development of faith, Cisneros shows a person named Abuelito whose faith is not clear at all, and trough the person of the narrator, she states that the memories about Tepeyac is a valuable thing. So there is similarity in both works, since Cisneros and Anaya refers to an idea in which both agree with the idea in which material things are not the most important thing in life, instead they thing soul and memories of a place are what maintains alive their faith. The comparison between the second variable shows that there is a difference in the interpretation of each one of the perspectives.
The Essay on Wuthering Heights The Narrator
Emily Brontefs Wuthering Heights, starts off with confusing opening characters and she uses Wuthering Heights as an introduction for the readers and to show the complex relationships the characters have among each other. Bronte uses a peculiar style of narration, she uses second and third person narration throughout the novel. Nothing is ever associated by a perspective of a single observer. In ...
While Anaya represents his perspective into a positive and a negative situation, supported in the case of Florence and the group of children, Cisneros represents her perspective into a past and now stages. So the difference mainly is in the treat of the point of view about religion, and what differs, as we have already said, is the parameters taken, in Bless Me, Ultima a positive and negative scale is taken, while in Tepeyac a before and after situation is taken to represent the perspective. So, the difference is in the parameters taken, but the representation of the perspective is included in both works treated always focusing in the parameters selected by each author, Anaya and Cisneros.
