Maverick is a quick witted card player who understands all aspects of poker. Maverick deceives the other players by losing all games in the first hour of the game. What the other players didn’t know was that he was carefully watching how they play, when they bluff and what they do before they bluff. Using his knowledge of the other players, Maverick quickly catches up and wins back the money he lost. The fight scenes in the film were well choreographed adding a stylish action theme to the movie.
Maverick’s fight early in the film with the cowboys was planned by Maverick. Maverick had paid the cowboys to run and cause trouble and lose the fight outside. Maverick did this because the tough Mexican card player would think he is strong and stay away from him. The Indians in the film were stereotyped differently to what they are perceived as to others. Maverick spoke to the Indians in there native language and asked them to co-operate with him when he was with the townspeople. Maverick made it look like that the Indians were angry at them and he was going to protect them by going with the Indians.
Maverick was actually going to get back his money from the head Indian Tribesman who owed it to him. In the film Maverick every character deceives each other in one way or another. When Maverick enters the bank and tries to get money from a banker, the banker tells him he only has a little and gives him a small amount. When the robbers rob him it is revealed he has a lot more. Maverick deceives the foreign man by telling him that he killed an Indian when he was out shooting. Maverick pretends to be an officer and gets the foreign man to pay him a bribe.
The Essay on Film Festival Films Money
Describes the small quaint town of Park City Utah as "condo-Choked" in his article on the front page of the Arts section of Monday's paper. Referring to the annual Sundance Film Festival that, since the beginning has attracted poor attention for bringing big business into the small town. In Maverick the audience is taken in a journey full of surprises. At the end of the film viewers are revealed that James Garner’s character in the film plays Mavericks father. Looking back in the film you realize that they have been clues given when they were in the wagon going to go off a cliff. Mavericks father didn’t show any compassion and made him try and stop the wagon.
In the film terms a cameo is a small part in a movie. In the film Danny Glover plays a cameo role as a bank robber. This is a humorous because they both star together in the lethal weapon films. Another cameo in the film is James Garner who plays Mavericks father. James Garner plays Maverick in the original television show. In the opening sequence of the film when Maverick is riding towards the town the camera focuses on Mavericks face and makes him look like he was traveling for a long time.
The camera moves side to side to make it look like he is on a horse. The camera moves back and it is revealed that he is actually riding a Donkey. The scenery in the Indian Village had picture perfect mountains and rivers. The camera shows the Indians playing in the lush green grass and moves to show the picturesque background. This was shown in the movie to show that Indians do live in beautiful places. The shot of the Canyon where Maverick nearly falls into after stopping the runaway stagecoach was like a canyon.
The Camera shows Maverick with his hands on the edge of the cliff and slowly moves into a position where you see the large canyon behind him. I liked this camera angle because it showed the viewers of the danger Maverick was in. The position of the camera during the runaway stage coach scene was excellent because the camera moved from showing the wheels going very fast, then into the carriage where the other two were, then outside to the horses and then to Maverick climbing to the top of the carriage. This was good because the camera showed a lot of camera angles which made it more exciting. The Voice Over technique was very good in the movie. The Impact it had was that you got to hear the story and what was happening rather than trying to piece it together yourself.

Maverick’s voice told the story in an interesting way and you got to hear what he was thinking in times of pressure. The use of Satire in the movie was overall the Cowboy theme. The Satire was the clothes that the characters wore. Maverick was very fond of his designer shirt. The bars were very Western with the swinging doors the old man playing the piano. The Indians were made to look more intelligent rather than people who only care about the land.
Maverick was a satire character poking fun at typical gun slinging characters being more of a joke.
