In discussing the ancient world, many aspects in ancient Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt seem to be different and similar in different ways. Mesopotamia and Egypt differ in the way their kings govern and the social standings of woman. But were the similar in how religion played a big part in their lives.
Mesopotamians kingship difference from Egypt in the way they governed. In Mesopotamia kings were the representatives of the gods. Also in Mesopotamia kings followed Hammurabi’s code of laws. Unlike in Mesopotamia Egypt kings are called pharos and they are seen as gods to their people. Egyptian pharoses have more authority in justice and law.
Egyptian woman had a greater respect and enjoyed more freedom than woman in Mesopotamia. In Mesopotamia woman lost social standing and they also lost their freedom with the spread of agriculture. In Egypt woman could own property, maintain control of their dowry, and even engage, but woman weren’t allowed to control politics. In Mesopotamia woman could also own property, inherit from their parents, and will their property to whomever they wish.
Religion in both Mesopotamia and Egypt played a big part in their community and governments. The belief system of Mesopotamia and Egypt are similar in many ways. Mesopotamia and Egypt both beliefs included polytheistic of, gods and goddess In the case of Egypt there were supreme gods such as the sun god Ra, Ammon, and Oriris. Another thing that Mesopotamia and Egypt have in common is that their god or goddess often has a human form, and animal form.
