Michael Jordan
Michael Jeffery Jordan! When people hear his name they think of him as a role model or
a star. Maybe just a great basketball player, but to all the basketball fans who know who
he is, they think of him as a dream.
Michael was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn New York. It all started on
the playground and home court where Michael Jordan learned the game of basketball
with his older brother, Larry, and other kids. His brother was always too good and beat
Michael regularly, but that would all change because Michaels dream had always been to
beat his older brother and hopes to palm that basketball as easy as holding a baseball. His
brother had never gave mercy or asked for mercy in playing the game of basketball,
Michael had to earn it. He was determined to win. When Jordan was little, James Jordan
(father) was attending a training school for General Electrics in Brooklyn, where he took
his wife and children back to North Carolina. Where his father would begin his work as a
mechanic for GE. In the Jordan family basketball was an important enough sport that his
father James built a dirt court in the backyard, with goals at each end of the court. They
lived in a small community, which there were no basketball courts in the neighborhood,
The Essay on Michael Jackson Younger Brother

so often it attracted the neighborhood kids who would often come to compete. For
Michael, the only competition he had was his older brother Larry that had never given
him any mercy. Michael had once said “I learned a lot about being competitive from
him,” but for Michael it had meant losing. He hated losing until he got his height, which
stood five-foot-ten and had given him more of an advantage over others.
Later on Michael was a starting point guard for the junior varsity team and as a
sophomore JV player he averaged about 20 points per game. So when there was an
announcement about an opening for a JV player to join the varsity team in time for the
state tournament, Michael had thought he would have a chance. Sadly, he didn’t make it.
He ended up as a manager, carrying in the uniforms for the team. He handed out towels
to the team while they were playing but that didn’t stop Michael from playing basketball.

and baseball behind. During the summer between his junior and senior years, Michael
was invited to a Five-star Basketball Camp, where the best high school basketball players
would show off their moves. Michael had done terrific; he had won five trophies during
the one-week session and then four more trophies the following week. Later on the year,
the University of North Carolina offered a basketball scholarship, which he happily
accepted. Knowing he was not a high school senior yet, Michael would graduate knowing
that at least for the next few years his future had been laid out for him. His next goal was
obviously getting a shot at the NBA (National Basketball Association).
On June 1981,
Michael had focused and dedicated his life on his college career, putting his high school
days behind. Michael was now ready to determine his next step college basketball and the

College life was good for Michael; he
did a terrific job on the basketball court, playing for the starting line up. It was good for
Michael because most freshmen usually ended up being benched, and gets to watching
the more experienced players play. However not for Michael Jordan, he also maintained a
B average in school. The thing that launched Michaels career happened on March 29,
1982, the Tar heels vs. the Georgetown Hoyas. This was no ordinary game, it was to
determine who would take the NCAA national champions home. It was held at the
Superdome in New Orleans, the gym was packed with 61, 612 fans. Everyone was

During the first season of his NBA career (1983-1984) was terrible because the
bulls had won only 27 of 82 regular season games. Also the Bulls sold few tickets for
their home games, averaging less than 7,000 a game. All this mattered to Michael, but he
was still learning and striving to become the best basketball player in the NBA. In 1991,
it was Michael Jordan’s first championship. IT was a 108-101 victory against the Lakers.
The title wouldn’t have been won without coach Phil Jackson’s carefully planned game.
He had found out Lakers weaknesses, which he consistently broke, down the defense off
the dribble and put his defense strength to double. Also by assigning team coverage to the
LA’s post line up players. This first championship title for Jordan was very important, but
he has a lot to learn and maybe more championships to come.
