Michael Jordans Professional Sports Career
Michael Jordan is a phenomenal athlete with a unique combination of grace, power, and outstanding ability. Michael Jordan has single-handedly redefined the NBA superstar. He is the most recognizable athlete in the world. He is not only the top player of his era, but possibly the best player to ever play in the NBA. Jordan is said to be a legend on the court.
As hard as it is to believe, Michael Jordan wasn’t born with a basketball in his hand. Jordan came into the NBA after an outstanding three year career at North Carolina. He hit the winning jump shot that led his team to the NCAA Championship in 1982. He was college player of the year in 1984. Jordan wasn’t very popular with the public at this time, but when he was picked number three over all by the Chicago Bulls, he began to grow popular as his outstanding career in the NBA started.
Here is an excerpt from his book: For the Love of the Game, which shows how dedicated he was in his early years:
“I always had the ultimate goal of being the best, but I approached everything step by step. That is why I wasn’t afraid to go to North Carolina University. Everyone told me I shouldn’t go, and that I should go to the Air Force Academy because then I would have a job when I finished college. Everyone had a different agenda for me. But I had my own.. As I look back, each one of those steps or successes led to the next one. So I set a goal of becoming a starter on the varsity. That’s what I focused on all summer. When it happened, I set another goal, that I could realistically achieve if I worked hard enough.”

Michael Jordan Michael Jordan in my opinion, was the greatest basketball player that ever lived. He holds more records than just about everyone that ever played this sport. Playing for the Bulls after his first season, Jordan received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. He also won a slot and the NBA All-Rookie Team, and a selection to the All-NBA Second Team. The 1985-86 season for Michael Jordan was one of his worst. He went down with a broken bone in his left foot. He missed 64 games before returning. Without Jordan to lead them, the bulls only won 30 games, but still managed to get into the playoffs. In 18 regular season games, Jordans points were all career lows. He was voted to the All-Star squad but was unable to play because of his injury. Michael Jordan at this time was a real basketball icon. Thousands of kids looked up to him and thousands of basketball players wanted to be like him. Jordan now got a call from Nike, wanting him to sign with them. They offered to make him his own shoe to be sold on the market. Jordan didn’t like Nike though, he was a huge Adidas fan, and wanted to sign with them and not Nike. This was really important for him. He went to meet with Nike and they offered him $250 000 a year for five years with an annuity, incentives, and royalties, on all Nike basket-ball related items. This was a great deal but risky because no other company had ever done this before. But because Jordan was so popular, they were willing to take the risk. Adidas never made Michael an offer so he signed with Nike and has never looked back or regretted anything. His ability to alter markets and drive the business of his marketing patterns is phenomenal.
In 1986-87 Jordan began a string of consecutive NBA scoring titles that would last for seven seasons. He scored career high points, and became the first player to top three thousand points in a season. Another highlight of this season was when he sank the NBA record twenty three points in a row. After winning his third straight title with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan had a tough moment in his life. His father, James Jordan, was murdered in North Carolina. If there was one person Michael was close to it was his father. James was at every game to cheer on his son, he never missed a game. Jordan has said “My personality and my laughter come from my father.” Michael took his fathers death very hard. His father was everything to him and his mother, Michael got his

Michael Jordan has an ability like no other player. He is very good at every part of basketball. Some players are good three point shooters, some are good at driving to the net, some are good at jump shots, and so on. But Michael Jordan is good at all of these, he can change to another strategy in a game at any time and that is why he is such a good player, and that is what amazes me about him. For thirteen brilliant seasons Michael Jordan danced the dance of greatness across hardwood floors of basketball arenas world wide.
