The Titanic was a disaster that happen in April of 1912. It was a great impact in America because it was suppose to be the ” un sinkable ship” but it did sink. There have been many books, pomes, stories, and songs about this ship. Three examples of this literature are De Titanic by Huddie Ledbetter, Titanic by David R Slav itt, and Reliquary by Michael Donaghy. The literature at the time of the ship snaking is different from what is written now reason is because at the time everybody was just new to it everybody now heard all the stories and now people can just say what they want to. To begin, one piece of Titanic literature is De Titanic by Huddie Ledbetter.
This song is about the titanic and the discrimination against the African Americans, like when he said ” Jack Johnson (the heavyweight champion) wanted to get on boa’d; Captain Smith hollered; I a nit hulling no coal;” . So what Huddie Ledbetter is doing is more like making fun of this disaster this is more proved when he said ” Jack Johnson heard the mighty shock might seen the black rascal doing eagle rock .” And also when he said “Black man ought a shout for joy never lost a girl or either a boy”, what he saying now that he is glad that they did not let black people on the ship that way he could of not loose anybody. Another example of literature about the Titanic is Titanic by DavidSlavitt. this poem is about the Titanic and what would people do today if the titanic was giving out tickets today.
