MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS 1
A mission statement is defined as a statement that defines the nature, purpose, and role of an organization or individual. Mission statements help to focus resources and guide planning. (International Encyclopedia of Hospitality Management, 2010) A mission statement is a statement of purpose that will guide an individual or organization. Similar to a mission statement, a vision statement is defined as a statement giving a broad image to work towards that an organization or individual is aiming to achieve. (Vision statement, 2009) The organization that I have chosen to research, in regards to their mission and vision statements, is Walmart. I have chosen Walmart because I am intrigued with their success, even in times of uncertainty in the economy.
Walmart’s mission statement is, “We save people money so they can live better.” (Farfan, n.d.) Similarly, Walmart’s vision statement is, “If we work together, we’ll lower the cost of living for everyone…we’ll give the world an opportunity to see what it’s like to save and have a better life.” These mission and vision statements were created by Walmart’s founder, Sam Walton, and the company strives to work towards these to this day. (Farfan, n.d.) From what I’ve seen when shopping at Walmart, I believe they live up to these statements. I always feel I’m getting a very good deal when I buy anything at Walmart, and I am impressed with how Walmart involves itself in local communities to help them (for example, giving to local schools).
Mission and vision literature review
Mission and Vision statements tell others who we are and where we want to go as an organization. Through the literature review, this paper aims to examine the importance of an organizational mission and vision statement. This paper outlines the details to show how business experts and practitioners have suggested that creating and communicating mission and vision statements are a critical part to ...
I think Walmart’s mission and vision statements are fairly simple, yet inclusive enough to direct them in the way they should go. I think this is important, so that an organization always knows what decisions to make based upon their mission and vision. My personal mission statement is, “I am constantly improving myself, doing everything that needs to be done in a timely manner. I focus on balance within my life. I face problems and mistakes as they arise, and deal with them immediately, so I can learn from them and move on .”

MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS 2
The reasons I have chosen this mission statement is that I believe continual improvement and education is vitally important for growth. If I am not moving forward, I am either moving backwards or stagnating. I value balance in my life, because too much or too little of something rarely fulfills me; and also doing a variety of things allows me to become more skilled and resourceful. In addition, I have learned that by facing problems, and dealing with mistakes immediately causes them to stay small and improves my own character in the process.
My personal vision statement is similar, “By continually improving myself, I am able to help tea ch others what I have learned and make the world a better place, and achieve meaning and purpose in my life.” The reasons I have chosen this vision statement is that I believe it is important to help others, because it is only by doing this that I feel genuinely fulfilled. It is important, to me, to share what I have learned in order to benefit others and it will also help guide me in my business ventures in the future. It is also through helping others, that I believe my meaning and purpose are fulfilled. By living in such a way as to benefit others, all I need to do is to look around, and I can see the fruits of my labor, and it gives me a reason and purpose to continue doing what I’m doing.
