Purpose: This activity is designed to familiarize you with the phases of mitosis and meiosis and compare these processes in a comparison chart. This activity will be three parts. For parts I and II, please scan your labeled work.
Preparation: There is no preparation or materials needed for this activity. You will simply need access to a scanner to submit your work.
Procedure
Part 1: For this portion of the laboratory, please sketch a cell with 4 chromosomes going through each stage of mitosis starting with what the cell would look like following interphase. You should label your work and include a list of 2-3 events that are taking place during each of the phases of mitosis. You will also want to include the total number of chromosomes in the parent and daughter cells.
Part 2: For this portion, please sketch a cell with 4 total chromosomes, 2 homologous pairs, going through the process of meiosis. You should label your work and include 2-3 events that are specific to each phase of meiosis. You will also want to include the total number of chromosomes in the parent and daughter cells. For this portion, please include a crossing over and independent assortment event and label the phases of meiosis where these processes take place.
Result: Please produce a comparison chart for mitosis and meiosis in which you include answers to the following sections:
1.When during the human life cycle does each take place?
2.How many total divisions does each complete?
The Essay on Dna Damage Cell Growth Phase
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, my colleagues and I have called you in at such short notice because we need to discuss a patient who was brought to our attention earlier this week. The patient presented with rapidly progressing lymphadenopathy, subsequent examination lymph nodes congested with many small B-lymphocytes. The B-lymphocytes showed a significant chromosomal aberration in the form a ...
3.How many daughter cells are produced during a typical event for each?
4.How much genetic information will the daughter cell contain compared to the parent cell following each event? Submission: Create your lab report using word-processing software, such as Microsoft Word and save it to your computer as a .doc, .docx, or .rtf file. To submit the report, choose the link titled, Lab 8: Mitosis, Meiosis, and the Cell Cycle, above. Use the “Browse My Computer” button in the Attach File area to attach your document.
