I think that the only immigrants that should be favored are the legal immigrants, the ones that have gone through all of the forms, fees, fingerprinting and all of the dealings with immigration services, and are now working hard to make themselves upstanding citizens.
Should [citizenship] preference be given to the neediest applicants? The most talented? The most oppressed? The richest?
Honestly, how do we define neediest when it comes to immigrants? I imagine if they are fighting to get to the U.S., then they must all be the neediest. As far as talented and oppressed, those should have no bearing on preference. Richest, well if they are rich in their country, then why bother immigrating here they should be just fine.
Should applications from certain countries be given priority?
This to me is a difficult question to answer, I think that unless the applicant is a relative or spouse of an already citizen, is a child being adopted by a citizen or an immigrant in need of medical care that can only be provided in the U.S., there should be no priority given. If there is any shown priority or favoritism that may result in negative attention from other countries which could end up in war. Personally I don’t feel that would be a good enough reason for a war to begin but some feel that the wars we have had were unnecessary as well.
