Terrorism is one of the major challenges that governments have to deal with across the world on a daily basis. Terror organizations can continue with their activities due to the financing that they obtain for their activities (Nesi, 2006).
There are various methods or ways through which the terror organizations across the world use to obtain finances. The funds are needed to support their direct operations, as well as their broad organization operations across the world (Great Britain, 2009).
The methods used by terror organizations include legitimate sources, such as legitimate businesses and abuse of charitable organizations. For example, charitable organizations are informed that the funds they are donating are to be used to finance and help in projects that benefits orphans and widows, but then transferred to fund terror activities (Nesi, 2006).
Furthermore, terror organizations obtain funds from criminal activities, and from sponsorship of failed states and other states that support terror activities (Great Britain, 2009).
The other source of finance for the terror groups include self-financing whereby families and other internal sources which do not involve criminal activities (Nesi, 2006).
Terror organizations and mafia organizations are similar in terms of the ways through which they obtain funds. The funds that are obtained by both the terror organizations and mafia organizations undergo money laundering.
Terrorist organizations and the mafia organizations are known to place their funds in various financial institutions and system so that they do not raise any form of suspicion (Great Britain, 2009).

The two organizations, terrorist and the mafia, are similar in that they both obtain funds through criminal activities, as well as legitimate businesses and sources. Furthermore, they both move their money around, using a series of transactions that are complex and cannot be traced across multiple jurisdictions hence concealing the primary source of the funds (Great Britain, 2009).
