How would you like to be on trial for something you didn’t do? In Monster, by Walter Dean Myers, Steve Harmon is on trial for felony murder. I believe that Steve Harmon is innocent because he didn’t know Bobo Evans, the store wasn’t clear, and there was no signal. The first reason why Steve Harmon is innocent because Steve did not know Bobo Evans. For example, in the novel Monster, by Walter Dean Myers, writes, “Did you talk to Steve Harmon… No… But you had not spoken to Mr. Harmon prior to the stickup… Naw” (195,197).
This shows that Steve and Bobo never seen each other. This also shows that Steve and Bobo never heard of each other. Clearly, Steve Harmon did not know Bobo Evans. The second reason why I think Steve Harmon is innocent because the drugstore wasn’t clear.
For example, in the novel Monster, by Walter Dean Myers, wrote, “Mrs. Henry said that she was in the drugstore when the robbery happened… if someone was to make sure that the drugstore was clear, they made a bad job of it” (247).
This shows that Steve Harmon was not by the drugstore. This also shows that Steve Harmon wasn’t in the drugstore. Clearly, Steve Harmon couldn’t be the look out. The third reason why I think Steve Harmon is innocent because Steve didn’t give a signal. For example, in the novel, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers wrote, “He was suppose to tell us if there was anybody in the drugstore… He didn’t say nothing so we figured it was all right” (182).
This demonstrates that Steve Harmon did not make sure it was clear. This also shows that Steve was quiet and didn’t give a signal. Clearly, Steve didn’t give a signal.
The Essay on Changes in Mr. Harmon’s Ambitions for His Older Son (“Monster” by Walter Dean Myers)
In the book, “Monster” by Walter Dean Myers, Steve Harmon was a 16 year old boy on trial for murder. He was visited by his father Mr. Harmon. During his visit, Mr. Harmon told Steve that he had many ambitions for Steve though these goals had changed while Steve was put on trial for murder. Eventually, Steve was found innocent and Mr. Harmon wanted very different things for his son. In other words, ...
Some people, however, would argue that Steve Harmon is guilty because, he was at the drugstore the day of the robbery. For example, in the novel Monster, by Walter Dean Myers wrote, “Anybody can walk into a drugstore and look around… I walked into a drugstore to look for some mints, and then I walked out.” (115,140).
Some people would argue that this shows that Steve Harmon is guilty because Steve Harmon was in the drugstore when the robbery happened. However, they are wrong because Mrs. Henry was still in the drugstore, so Steve didn’t make sure that it was clear. In conclusion, we should find Steve Harmon innocent. One positive effect of this would be Steve Harmon would get to do his films and make movies. By finding Steve Harmon innocent he gets to enjoy the rest of his life not behind bars.
