The decline of morality is a growing problem through out the world. The world we live on is changing. Towns and cities are growing and the people living in them are changing too. The quaint shopping town Geneva was know for just ten years ago is now the next Naperville. With that change and others like it, the citizens of Geneva also change. Peoples attitudes, morals, and values seemed to have dropped along with the small town, everyone knows everyone, reputation.
This problem is not unique to Geneva. The decline in morality is a worldwide plague. I think that it has something to do with the idea that no one is watching that closely anymore. Without the close knit, small town mentality, people, especially kids, aren’t governing themselves as carefully.
The Code of Social and Family Responsibility in New Zealand was created to tighten the gap between parents and children. While that is a definite step in the right direction, more needs to be done. Everyone should examine their own faults and try to change them.
We all know stealing is wrong, but some of us do anyway. We need to ask ourselves why and then understand we need to stop. Other people may think that moral decline is stimulated by immoral leaders. This is partially true. Leaders like Bill Clinton need to be moral to set a good example. But American citizens need to ask themselves: “Who elected him to office, twice?” The answer: a society of generally immoral people.
