The muscles in the human body are attached to the skeleton, when each joint is moved the muscles act like hinges to pull or move that joint into the position needed. In some IndIviduals they can loose muscle tone this leads to muscles becoming weak and slackened causing movement to be slower and much more difficult than normal, therefore when moving and positioning individuals, it is important to ensure they are not moved more than their muscles and bones are capable of, as muscles can only move the bones as far as the joint will allow.It is important to move and handle the Individual correctly to ensure nerve fibres are not damaged this is because they are very delicate and important, since they send impulses in the body which enable muscles to relax and contract.
1.2 Describe the impact of specific conditions on the correct movement and positioning of an Individual.
People with arthritis have often suffer with stiff, rigid and painful joints, and movement of joints can be limited, it is important to not forcefully move the joints beyond their capabilities in order to prevent pain and discomfort.For Individual’s suffering from fractures, the movement should be gentle and careful, and correct procedures must be followed, so as to reduce any further complications to the fracture. Should the individual be bed-bound, the correct hoist and sling must be used. When staff follow appropriate moving and handling techniques, it will reduces the risks of back injury, pain and discomfort to both service user and staff themselves.

2.1 Describe how current legislation and agreed ways of working affect working practices related to moving and positing Individuals. Each time a carer or support worker moves or handles the weight of a service user they are manually handling that person.Unsafe moving and handling practices can end up with injuries to either the care worker or the person they are assisting to move.To lower the risk of injury to the care worker and the person being supported legislations are put in place to protect them. (The health and safety at work act 1974) makes it a legal requirement for employers to ensure that the health and safety of their employees is maintained. The manual handling Operations Regulations for employers states that they must carry out risk assessments for all moves and reduce the risk of injuries from happening and avoid dangerous moving and handling; the employees’ responsibilities include using all equipment as trained to do so, follow all health and safety working practices and avoid putting themselves or other staff, individuals or visitors at risk, reporting any hazards or risks to their employer

Before moving and positioning individuals I will ensure that I only move and position individuals were I am trained to do so.I will take into account the individuals health and any medical problems they may have,the distance of the move relating to the Individual,reasons for the move or positioning.I will check that I have enough space around me to carry out the move and that I am wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment including footwear.I Should carry out a manual risk assessment and check before performing any move or re-positioning removing any hazards, e.g; loose wires,loose carpets,clothing,and other obstacles.All equipment used in the moving and positioning should be checked that it is in correct working order, that all electrical hoist are fully charged,safe and clean to use.

6.1 Describe when advice and or assistance should be sought to move or handle an individual safely. Advice – should be sought whenever the care worker is not fully knowledgeable or is unsure of the manual handling needs surrounding the service user and there care, the support of senior workers or supervisors should be sought. Assistance – Should be sought for help with moving and handling the individual when using equipment for lifting and positioning e.g: Electrical and manual hoist, turning boards, bath hoist, turning tables used to turn individuals,such equipment often requires two person handling for safety reasons.
6.2 Describe what sources of information are available about moving and positioning Individuals. Sources of information are available within the service users care plan. It can also be found within government legislations and codes of practice, also own company polices and procedures.
