The side effects of music on the brain have significantly increased over recent years. More and more people have begun to develop a fascination with music, the way a person’s emotions can be explained so perfectly by a song, the way a sad song can make someone feel sad, the way energetic beats can perk a person right up on a bad day. The results of studies are fascinating. The things that these studies are proving are surprising. These results show the effect of music on everything that a person does, their lives, and even their health. Research on the topic is shocking.
The types of music people listen to, throughout their lives determine a lot of how they act as adults and young adults. Having children listen to appropriate music at young ages has shown improved memory, a higher IQ, and better learning skills (Emory).

Depression reduces brain activity and hampers the mind’s ability to plan and carry out tasks. Lack of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, results in a depressed state of mind. Soothing musical notes help increase the serotonin levels of the brain, thus easing mental depression (Music Therepy).
Natural musical notes are known to make the mind alert. Anxiety is a feeling of fear or uncertainty that clouds a person’s mind and the feeling is mostly about an upcoming event having an unknown outcome. The result is what a person is afraid of or worried about (Music Therepy).
Increased anxiety levels and stress lead to sleeplessness. Prolonged periods of anxiety may even lead to anxiety disorders. But, music can come to the rescue(Discovery).
It calms the body nerves and soothes the mind. Also, flat musical notes induce sleep (Emory).
The positive effects of music clearly make it worth trying. Struggles with school, depression, anxiety, or personal problems can be eased with music. Having done research can really change a person’s opinions on this topic, because the list of issues music can start to solve is endless. Most internal conflict can be eased with music, whether it be a flat note for an insomniac, or a perky tune for someone who’s been having a bad day. Music’s effect on the brain, and on people’s lives, is incredible.
