Many people have good friends. I have many. I hate to call anyone my “best friend” because I don’t want anyone left out. They blamed books and comics we liked and tried to ban them, while forcing us to read “classics,” which for the most part were either seriously boring or meant for a far more sophisticated target audience. Face it, “Moby Dick” to a ten year old is a book about some crazy guy after a whale. Melville is a very difficult author to read, and the concept of chasing one’s dreams and revenge are really kind of lost to someone who isn’t and adult. Not to say kids are stupid, but who can really understand “The Crucible” or “The Scarlet Letter” until they have a fair amount of adult mature experience to refer to.
