“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed.” August 28th 1963 marked the day Martin Luther King Jr. had persuaded many people in his speeches. He got to speak to thousands of people at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C in America. Martin Luther King Jr is a great influence to young people; he spoke non-violent ways to create a society of equality that stirred many hearts. Firstly in this essay I would like to analyze, why was Martin Luther King Jr. a great leader? Why has his name lived on? What have we learned from him? And lastly; how did he influence people?
To begin, I believe that Martin Luther King Jr. was a great leader. He changed lives and helped a lot of people. According to mlk.com “he truly believed that all men are created equal.” As of today all men are created equally, but would that have been recognized without this man who went against the norms of society and rose in the ranks as the person who ended racism in America? Seeing what he did he was a brave, courageous and loving man, he dug down deep into issues of racial discrimination and presented love and equality. Even though he only got to preach to the people of America for a very short period of time, but he persuaded many hearts and minds. I have a sense of relief for the life of Martin Luther King Jr. without him we would never found peace as a nation or as world.

Secondly, Martin Luther king Jr. is mostly known as the person who ended racism in America. He used non-violent resistance to overcome injustice and he never got tired of trying to end segregation laws. (Laws that prevented blacks from entering certain places such as restaurants, hotels and public schools) According to toptenz.net stated, “When Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to move, Martin Luther King Jr. led the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which lasted over a year. King’s house was bombed and was arrested. Because of that the United States District Court ended racial segregation.”
Thirdly, one of the things I learned from Martin Luther King, is one that violence isn’t the answer, love in fact is the answer. Quoted by him “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” What he’s trying to say here is that violence isn’t the answer to solve your problems and there’s always other ways and only love can do that. All Martin Luther King Jr. wanted was freedom for the world and to be able to go places and be treated fairly. I also learned from him is always be civil and never give up.
Lastly, Martin Luther King Jr. was a human rights icon, one of the world’s most renowned orators and the most prominent leader in the African-American civil rights movement. He fought for a cause that he felt was worth dying for. He influenced many people by his bravery, trust, dignity and also his leadership skills. He was an inspiration to many. According to goodreads.com, Martin Luther King Jr. once said “The time is always right to do the right thing.” What he meant here that it’s never too late to do the right thing. It’s sad that he died at a young age but as he left this world he achieved his goal and that was to end racism all over the world.
In addition, Martin Luther King Jr. is my greatest person because he changed the world fundamentally but unlike many others in history, he did it the right way: he sought freedom and dignity for all people of all backgrounds through the means of peace and humanity.
