Today I am an old women. My life is nearly over I am 95 life was hard as a youngster in my days but in the end I always made it out of the hard times. I have gone through a lot in my life I have seen my parents pass and my friends but I will never forgot the times we spent together because it always made us stronger. When I was a little girl my mommy would always tell me. Love never fails and that is true no matter the drama or the hardships as long as you have love it never will fail. In my long life I have learned all of that.
I had a strong family and we always made it out of our hard times at the age of 4 my father walked out on our family. I always had hate for my father for leaving my 3 siblings and I with a single mother. My mom always made it through the hard times she was a strong women. This shaped my life I never was able to trust or to give my heart out until I met my best friend Nadine. We shared a lot of memories together and we were the best of friends she was the one I would cry to and tell all my feelings to. She would always listen to me and I wouldn’t be judged because she had a love that never failed.
As I recall I remember one time Nadine running to me in the middle of the night crying her eyes out he parents were murdered. I cried all night with her and washed her tears away I was afraid with her and didn’t know what to do I scared. My mom took her in as her child so not only was Nadine my best friend but she was also my sister. My mother met a man name sam he was the best man my mom could have ever found. He took me in as his own child and I loved him dearly. He was the father that I always wanted.

We had many happy days together but in the mid- 1800’s all this would change and my life would have another bump and dramatically changed my life forever. Chase 2 There was a thousand of us who were going to make the long journey from Missouri to Oregon. What we did not know at the time is that this would be one of the hardest and toughest situation our people would have to face. Everyone was running around like mad people trying to get ready for the long journey that awaited us.
It was an early morning in 1843 and as we got ready to take the 2, 000 mile trip to Oregon my mom said. “Baby are you ready to leave this life behind and begin a new one.” I did not tell her I was afraid and scared for what would await us on the journey. I put my fears away and said ” Yes mama I am ready.” As I looked one more time at what used to be my home. I prayed that are journey would be safe for the Oregon Trail awaited us, My name is Maria rose and I was one of the thousands of children that made this journey this was not a fun journey for us.
Us kids didn’t have the normal kid life like as other did we couldn’t go to school and play and just be normal youngsters we were constantly on the move to get to our destination. We faced many adult like experiences and we were all emotionally drained from losing so many family members and friends it was the toughest thing that I had ever faced in my life Well this is where the hard sip and troubles began. We started off with about a thousand people and many of them have passed on. I can still see the joy and happiness that each individual had and who many of them who hoped to go to Oregon were put to there graves.
There was many deaths that we faced because of cholera. My best friend Nadine died of it. Nadine and I were talking and laughing about what we would do when we reached Oregon. We had good times and within hours my best friend had died, of a mysterious and deadly diese. She was the first person on the trail to die of this deadly disease. As I thought about all the fun and laughter we had Chase 3 shared I could not control my emotions.

I was unable to go to the funeral because I could not say goodbye to her forever. There where many deaths my chorea but also some people like my brother died from the wheat er. He was killed by a great thunderstorm that took had a dozen emigrants life. Also some people were injured by hail that was the size of apples. This was a harsh death that many of are immigrants had to face. These death that many people faced was not just a short term thing.
People where dying trough out the whole trip to Oregon. While on are trip we met many native tribe Indian. The Grattan massacre was one of the most important times we encountered the native tribes. It happened in 1854 at Ft. La marie. What happened was one of our peoples cow wandered away.
The native tribe saw it and ate it because of this are men got mad and fired at the tribe. The Oregon Trail was corridor to the Western United sates. The trail was only good way for settlers to go across the mountains. This journey was very difficult. 1 of 10 people died and some people even barefooted walked the entire way. The native tribes were helpful to us emigrants.
They were not our enemies they helped us at times our real enemies was Chorea, poor sanitation, and accidental gunshots. Even tough we had far more hardships then we expected at the beginning. We also had good times. We had are friends and are family we laughed together and we all loved each other. Even tough are life wasn’t completely normal we didn’t forget those we loved and our family and friends for that was are main priorities We were able to see a lot of the beauty along the way. Even tough there was many of us who died my mother and I survived.
We were one of the luckiest enough to reach Oregon; . With all the trouble we had we made it through the Oregon Trail. Chase 4 As I lay in my death bed I look back to all these events in life. A tear rolls down my eyes. I take a big breath I have finished the raise.
