To begin with I’d like to say that at present I have a very vague idea about my future career and I am unable to give a detailed account of the activities it will involve. Anyway, I guess, it will be connected with languages by all means. My first language is Russian. However, I study Latvian and often visit my Latvian friends and speak to them in Latvian.
I have been studying English for three years as well, but I have not had any tangible result yet. What is the reason of all this? Well, first of all I guess, I was not able to improve my English skills because there was no possibility for daily practice in speaking to native speakers, so, I guess, I was not motivated enough.
Later, watching and listening to my classmates, I understood I should work hard to achieve my goals. It’s impossible to have any success while doing nothing. So, I had to estimate my level of the knowledge of English. I must say it was very low. Thus, I decided to improve my English in my spare time.
Of course, my English has not got much higher so far, but I am trying to do my best in attending all the reading, listening and writing classes. I quite love reading. I have read a lot about Odri Hepburn and my first E.S.P. reading presentation about her was not bad, I think.
I find our English lessons very, very interesting. At the lessons we read texts, translate them, work with new words, do exercises, write essays and put everything done in a portfolio.
I cannot help saying some words about our English portfolio. To my mind, it is the most remarkable thing in my studying process. Our portfolio must include different pieces. All the pieces are equally important, and they come from English classes. The papers written in class or out of school are acceptable. They may have been revised after being returned by a teacher. We can look back and consider the process deeply. I appreciate greatly the ability to have, thanks to our English teacher, such a wonderful thing like my portfolio. It is a very good indicator of the performed work, thanks to our English teacher,

I think I can still use some work on punctuations, because that’s my weakness I have always struggled with punctuations and I think it’s time to start doing better on those punctuations. Even If I knew how to do punctuations and everything that involves writing a good essay or paragraph I think that there will be still a lot more to learn for me, but I can take a challenge. In conclusion, I’d like to say that writing this essay has helped me to evaluate how I am studying, what student I am and what I have to do about my English in the short run.
