According to the Bible, Noah’s Ark is the largest sea going vessel known before the 20 th century. It’s dimensions were at least 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, 45 feet high with three interior decks, and had a window constructed around the top. The proportions of the ark are amazingly similar to the large ocean liners of today. The Bible also says the boat came to rest on ‘the mountains if Ararat’, but it doesn’t name a specific peak. It is also kind of weird because after Noah and his family get of the ark it disappears from the pages of the bible and isn’t mentioned again. The writers of the Bible never mentioned if it could still be seen.
Today the Ararat Mountain is more like a mountain range with twin peaks. It is very interesting that throughout history there have been numerous reports of a large boat in a mountain in this region. Beginning around 3 rd century BC suggests that it was common knowledge that the Ark could still be viewed on the Mount Ararat. Reports over the past century consist of visits to the vessel, to recovery of wooded timer, to aerial photographs. It is believed that at least part of the Ark is intact somewhere above the 10, 000 foot level. It is encased in snow and ice for most of the year so the structure can only be seen or accessed during certain warm summers.
Former NASO astronaut James Irwin participated in expeditions up the mountain. Because of the breakup of the former Soviet Union and the mountain was right on the Turkey-Soviet border, ark investigations were given a boost. Return visits to the sites have produced no evidence, and the whereabouts of the photographs are currently unknown. To top it off James Irwin has since died and eyewitnesses have since publicly withdrew statements. web.
