My eighth grade english teacher has made a lasting impression on my life. I will never forget the important lessons she went over. Advertising in the media, the importance of the holocaust, and racism are a few that made the most impact on my life. I never would have stopped to think about how the media can control our feelings and shape our lives. She pointed out and analyzed how advertisments work to make people feel bad about themselves, and confide in what is being advertised in order to be happy. Now that I am aware of that, I am a much happier person.
The Holocaust was the subject she was the most passionate about. I learned how easily people can be manipulated, how terrible hate is, and how brave people can really be. I will always remember the time and emotion she put into that unit. I didn’t think much about racism and its effects on our lives. The discussions we had as a class really tuned me into what was really happening. Now I always try to treat everyone equal the best I can.
It wasn’t easy to catch myself when saying things, but now I do. My english teacher was determined to change our lives. She really changed mine. I thank her for the passion and individuality she has shared with me.
