While walking through the streets of Toronto, people are sure to notice the CN Tower, Sky dome, however, very few notice the growing number of homeless individuals on the streets. Homelessness has been a prominent issue in Toronto and although some aid has been issued to help those on the streets, there are still a significant number of homeless people. Society as a whole is evidently not doing enough to their ability, in order to help the homeless “have a life”, therefore, the government, churches, and individuals should try and do more to improve the living standard of these people. The municipal government is responsible for all issues surrounding the city of Toronto, which is why they have already tried to help the homeless by setting up shelters and other such activities. Although shelters are available to the homeless, there are clearly not enough to house those who live in the city of Toronto. The government should put more money towards building a few more shelters, and increase funding to those shelters that are already open, in order to provide more beds, equipment, etc.

The churches too have recognized the problem of homelessness, and have done charitable works such as food and clothing drives in order to help those who are less fortunate. In addition to these drives, the churches should offer programs where the homeless can come in and have sessions in which they get help for alcohol and drug abuse, as well as other problems that they may have. These programs will provide hope for those living on the streets and will possibly motivate them to live better lives in the future. Some individuals in our society complain about having too many homeless on the streets, however, the reason for the large number of homeless people is the lack of volunteers in the shelters and programs that are designed to help get these people off the streets. People should feel more motivated to help their society and have a greater sense of responsibility for what goes on in the city. Although many individuals do take time out of their busy schedules to volunteer and make a difference, there are those individuals who can’t be bothered or don’t have enough time to help.
People should be more inspired to help their neighbours and help solve the problem of homelessness in Toronto. Homelessness may be a big problem currently, however, with the help of the government, churches, and individuals, this problem can be solved.
