Evidence that this book takes place during the time period is that they use bindles. Bindles are used by travelling people who don’t want to carry around to many belongings, since George and Lennie are looking for jobs and travelling around America they take bindles around with them for easy travelling. An example of them using bindles is when Steinbeck first introduces the characters ‘’…both carried tight blanket rolls slung over their shoulders.’’ Pg 2. They’ve got work tickets which they got from Murray and Ready’s George said on page 5, “The hell with what I says. You remember about us goin’ into Murray and Ready’s, and they give us work cards and bus tickets?” Pg 5. The last piece of evidence that this is during the time period is that they have the American Dream in mind. Lennie and George dream of “An’ live off the fatta the lan’” What Lennie means is to live off the fat of the land, it was most likely a widely used expression of the time and it means to live off the excess materials of the land.
George and Lennie are quite the opposite of characters; here are a few physical characteristics of the two. Lennie Small is a huge man with bear like features. Steinbeck wrote”…, a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws. His arms did not swing at his sides, but hung loosely.” From Steinbeck’s description you get the image of just a big, well built man.
The Essay on Consequences Of Sin Deception Lennie George
Consequences of Deception in Humanism What roles does deception play in people s lives People use lying and falsehood in order to get away with the consequences of their fault... We apparently need illusions to feel good about ourselves and to maintain a sense of self-continuity x (Lewis & Saarni 7). However, these lies destine peoples to the point where they face harsher consequences. ...
George is a small man with sharp strong features.“…small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp strong features. “ Pg 2 George also has small defined features.”…:small, strong hands, slender arms, a thin and bony nose.”
Two personality traits of George are that he seems to be a bit of a nervous man”…, with restless eyes and sharp strong features.” He seems a bit nervous of his surroundings like he’s trying to stay away from trouble. The other is that he gets frustrated easily with Lennie sometimes because Lennie has lots of trouble remembering things. “The hell with the rabbits. That’s all you ever can remember is them rabbits. O.K! Now you listen and this time you got to remember so we don’t get in no trouble…” George was yelling at Lennie because Lennie had forgotten where the two of them were heading.
Two about Lennie are that he has a mental disability that causes him to act like a young child and forget stuff that George tells him. An example of him acting like a child is that he loves to touch soft things. “I could pet it with my thumb while we walked along.” Lennie said when George asked why he had a dead mouse in is pocket.
He also tries his hardest to please George. An example is Lennie tells George that he likes Ketchup with his beans, and then when George gets mad at him for saying he likes something that neither of them have. “I was only foolin’, George. I don’t want no ketchup, I wouldn’t eat no ketchup ifit was right here beside me.” As you can see Lennie is trying to please George because he knew he got George upset.
The relationship between Lennie and George is similar to that of siblings because they don’t always get along but they’re bonded together. George won’t leave Lennie because he cares about Lennie and he knows that if Lennie was by himself he would die from loneliness or he would just go crazy. “An why? Because…because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you…” This quote shows that they’re together because they want to take care of each other. But really it’s George taking care of Lennie.
The Essay on Hope George Lennie Dream
In both "Hope is the thing with feathers", by Emily Dickinson, and Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, hope is portrayed as keeping up one's spirit, and welcome when times are grueling, and sounding promising but not always making sense. Curley's wife dreams of being a movie star, and this keeps her married, if unhappily, to Curley, but her dream is actually a delusion, and while promising much, ...
Chapter 2
1.The biggest reason that the boss feels that there is something suspicious about Lennie is George does all the talking for Lennie which makes the boss think that something is wrong with Lennie. The boss asked ‘’Then why don’t you let him answer? What you trying to put over?” The boss thinks that George is trying to cover something up about Lennie which George is really trying to do. Another reason is he thinks that George is taking advantage of Lennie. “I said what stake you got in this guy? You takin’ his pay away from him?” The boss suspects that George is taking advantage of Lennie for financial reasons because during this time period money was very scarce.
2.Curley is referring to them as “So it’s that way” most likely because they travel around looking for work together.“We travel together,” said George coldly.“Oh so it’s that way.” During this time period it was every man for himself so it was very rare that two men would be looking for work together. Curley may also think that they are homosexual because they’re always together.
3.George tells Lennie to stay away from Curley to keep out of trouble. Because Curley likes to pick fights with big guys to make himself look bigger and stronger. “Curley’s like a lot of little guys. He hates big guys. He’s alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like he’s mad at ’em because he ain’t a big guy.” It explains in future chapters that Curley was a semi pro boxer so he has experience in fighting.
4.Curley symbolizes corruptive power because he has too much authority and takes too much advantage of it. His authority is that he is the boss’s son so he can pick on workers or even get them fired. “If he tangles with you, Lennie, we’re gonna get the can.” So if they get in any argument or fight with Curley they’ll get fired because he has his Dad on his side who is also the boss.
