My coach asked three of my teammates along with myself to play in the Marysville 3on3 basketball tournament this past August. We were scheduled to play our first game at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, as my dad and I were the first to arrive we wandered over to take a look at the brackets, this is when we discovered they had made a mistake, and put our team in the ninth grade division. Our team two seventh graders and two eighth graders on it, and we were going to have to play against ninth graders. About 5 minutes before game time, my teammate, Will and myself were the only two there. My mom got a call from our other two teammates who were lost and were going to be late. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived the game was over. This tournament was not starting out well. We had to play two on three in the 9th grade division, and we did not just lose, we were destroyed.
My coach found the tournament director to inquire about why our team was placed in the 9th grade division. After realizing his mistake, the tournament director apologized, and was looking for extra games for us to play. Fortunately for us, one of the 8th grade teams had not showed up to play their first game, so we were able to take over their spot in the tournament, but they wanted us to play in the ninth grade division as well. We were happy about that because it meant we had more games to play. It was not until late on Sunday that we realized how hard it was going to be. On Saturday, we won one and lost one in the 9th grade division. However, in the 8th grade division we had to battle our way through the losers bracket because of the first game forfeit by the team we replaced. As a result, we ended up playing four games in the 8th grade division on Saturday as well, and we won all four. At the end of the day we realized that if we lost our next 9th grade game we would be eliminated from that division.
The Essay on History Of Basketball Game One Played
A man by the name of Dr. James Naismith was one day faced with the problem of finding a sport that was suitable to play inside during the cold winters. Naismith was in charge of the YMCA in Massachusetts and in 1891, he invented the game of basketball. Naismith wanted to create a game of skill for the students instead of one that relied solely on strength. He needed a game that could be played ...
Sunday’s first game was scheduled for 9:30 in the 8th grade division, and then we had to play what ended up being our elimination game in the 9th grade division at 11:00. However, we did win our 9:30 game so we continued in the 8th grade brackets with a game at 12:00 versus Quad City Thunder. The game was a physical one, but we came out on top, final score being 16-8. The fatigue was starting to settle in, and we had to win our next game to make it to the championship game. Start time for the fourth game of the day was 12:30, and the winner moved on to the championships. This is the information our coach used to motivate us. We beat a team named Fresh Air in style, final score 16-6. We were excited, but hungry too, so we sat in the shade, ate our lunch and watched a few games. Our championship game was scheduled for 2:00 and we were going to be playing against boys that played on our rival team from Ferndale. We all knew this was going to be one crazy game.
Prior to the championship game, it was explained to us that because Ferndale was undefeated, we would have to beat them twice to be crowned the champions. Furthermore, our coach had to leave early because he was running a camp in Everett. My mom, who coaches us a lot, was there so she took over. Flip a coin for the ball, I chose tails, we won, but that is the only thing we did right for the first 10 minutes. We got down 7-0 when my mom called a time out. I remember exactly what she said, “Do you guys want to win?” Of course, we all answered, “Yes.” That is when the motivating statement came, “I know all of you are tired, you guys have all worked hard this weekend, but don’t settle for making it to the championship game, dig deep, play with heart and win the game.” We made the next eight baskets, taking the lead 8-7. Ferndale’s coach calls a timeout, and gives us a chance to get a drink of water. Words of wisdom from my mom, “Play tough defense, and the offense will come.”

For the next 20 minutes, we go back in forth with the lead, neither team leading by more than one basket. First team to get to sixteen points wins the game, however you have to win by two. Game was tied at 15, we have the ball and Will shoots it, we go up by one. One more basket wins the game for us, but they score first. Now sixteen all, we miss our next shot and they make theirs, now they have the lead 17-16. Our ball again, and we execute a little play very well and make the basket, 17-17. They get the ball, but I make a great steal, and pass it out to Will outside the three-point line. Ferndale’s players were sagging off in the middle, so Will takes the shot. Because two points are awarded for three pointers, I realize when it is in the air that if it goes in we win. The ball had perfect rotation and a good arch. SWISH! We won the game.
All other division championship games were over, but we still had one more game to play, the remaining spectators wandered over to watch our 12th and final game of the weekend. I guess you could say we had the momentum because we could not miss a shot. The spectators were awed by the shots that were dropping for us. We won the final game 16-7 and were crowned the champs of the tournament!
