“Uh oh, says Lance. “I can see the police. I better pick up some speed.” I can still see the prison behind me after five long minutes of hard running through three-foot tall weeds. The searchlights from helicopters above provide adequate lighting for me. I take one step at a time trying not to make any unnecessary noise. As I strip down to my shorts and t-shirt I take notice to how cold it is outside.
I haven’t seen daylight in months due to the fact that I’m confined to my tiny death cell. I am approaching what seems to be a forest. I see hundreds if not thousands of tall, massive trees. I figure this is the perfect hideout until I find neutral ground. The searchlights can’t penetrate through the thick branches of the trees, so I must now rely on my other senses to get around. I feel my way through the pitch-black forest.
I get on my hands and knees to crawl. After ten gruesome minutes my head bumps into something solid. I assume it is a tree, but after close examination it turns out to be a door. I anxiously hop to my feet and to my surprise the door is unlocked. As I step through the door I feel a sense of relief. I take a deep breath and bellow out at the top of my lungs, “Is anyone home?” I figure it’s a big house so I wait for a response.
Minutes pass and I begin to hear soft thumps on the floor. They become more and more thunderous as time passes. It seems as if someone is darting towards me. I panic, and out of fear I let out screech, but I am so terrified it comes out as a squeal. I run out the house. I take a look back and a bulky figure is charging towards me with a butcher’s knife.
The poem “The Door” demonstrates to us that change in self involves taking chances and the positive consequences of change. Holub expresses change as an individual’s commitment to embrace new opportunities presented to them, leading to a new perspective of life. The door, being the central metaphor of the poem, represents a barrier, which holds us back from instigating a change. ...
I cry out, “STOP,” but he still persists, so I prepare to go into combat. Before I could do anything I feel a sharp pain in my right shoulder. Oh it hurts. This dim-witted guy threw a knife at me. I stumble to my knees. I reach to pull the knife out, but it’s stuck.
I’m bleeding uncontrollable, and I’m becoming dizzy. It’s happening just like the movies; it’s getting darker and darker, stars appear, and I’m passed out. When I awake I tall, colossal man is hovering over me. He has a deep voice that’s hard to understand. That may be because I’m still a bit woozy.
A few minutes later he returns with a bowl of gruel. It looks like a blend of oatmeal and porridge. I eat it although it tastes like mud. After my meal he gives me a tall glass of goat milk.
I think to myself, “Yuk, I’m not drinking this.” He says it’s supposed to be nutritional. Being polite, I don’t just straight out tell him I don’t want it, so I spill it and give the impression that it’s an accident. I take a look down at myself and notice I’m fully dressed. “Explain yourself. Why did your come running at me like some sort of a mad man and almost decapitate my head? Then clean me up, clothe, shelter, and feed me? I want answers, now!”Yes, and you deserve them, but first you need your rest.”No! No! No! Let me rephrase that; I demand answers, or you ” ll be sorry.”Whoa, calm down partner.
I was just protecting my property. There are some crazy people out there. No offense, but you just might be one. So what’s your story? Based on the way you were dressed I’d say you ” re on the run.
I may be wrong, but you escaped from the prison a few miles up, huh?”Are you judging me? That’s your job to judge me right?” While I’m talking to him I catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye. It’s shiny and keeps on flashing. After closer inspection I realize it’s a police siren. Its looks like a police car, except it’s brown and white, army colors.
Old Man and The Sea Human beings need to live in a group where everyone respects them and treats them equally. No human being can live alone isolated from other people because one hand can not clap by itself. In The Old Man and The Sea, the author uses setting, character and symbolism to show that people who society perceives as different are usually isolated. Once one is able to discover the ...
It’s pretty far off in the distance, but I figure I ought to stay on the move. I don’t think much of it. After I finish insulting the character I reckon I’m going to need some protection so I ask him to join me. “Sorry about that. I’m sensitive when it comes to that sort of stuff.
But anyway, I’m in a hurry. Do you want to join me on my pursuit for freedom?”Gee, I don’t know. You offended me, and you are a bit on the bossy side, but what the heck, sure.”Alright, good. Brings your guns and whatever other kind of weapons and tools you have. We got to go.” After a half of mile of traveling in the opposite direction of that rat-infested prison that guy I’ve been traveling with, wait a sec, I don’t even know his name. “Hey you!”Me?”Yeah, you ” re the only one out here.
I didn’t catch your name. I guess I was caught up in escape-uh, I mean getting some rest.”Yeah, sure. Anyway my name is Jackson.”Jackson? That’s it?”Yeah, I made up my own name. My old one didn’t fit me. Now stop with the questions. We must be on our way.” After five minutes of walking in dead silence we decide to pick up the pace.
We start to jog. Two minutes into out jog I trip and fall over something protruding from the ground. I fall face first into the dirt.” Own, son of a!”I quickly return to my feet trying not to lose too much time. I walk over to the object I tumbled over.
It’s a box with one edge sticking out from the ground. “Hey, Jackson, you wouldn’t happen to have a shovel with you, would you?”Nah, but I do have a hammer. You can use the sharp end to dig.” This is tough one. It doesn’t want to come out. I continue to dig for twenty minutes determined to uncover the hidden treasure. I finally unveil the fortune, and just as I expected it’s locked.
I strike the box once with the hammer to shatter the old and rusty lock. I eagerly look inside to disclose a movie film. “Aww, man. I was hoping for money, what about you Jackson?”I don’t even care right now. Let’s just get away from this here, it’s giving me the creeps. This spot is hot.
It has that police feel to it.” I stick the film into my backpack that Jackson provided for me. I’ll watch the film once we get to safe ground. We return to out escapade, only this time we run. I don’t know why, it’s his idea. I think we should go slower than before. One of us might plummet to the ground again, but oh well.
Analytical Critique of The Godfather I believe the reason that, "The Godfather", is such a great film is because it lets audiences decide whether they like the characters or not. Too many movies made about organized crime begin with some seemingly random act of violence. "The Godfather", however, lets it be known from the start to judge the characters in the film based on what type of person they ...
“Hey, stop! I think I hear something. S hhhh. Be still, be very still.”What are we listening for?”Hey, didn’t I tell you to shut up? I guess I am the brains of this operation. I heard it again. There’s someone in the bushes. They probably have been following us for a while, watching our every step.
I see him. I’m going to pretend I’m tying my shoe. When I bend down block me so he can’t see. Then I’m going to crawl over behind him and detain him. Alright, one, two, three, now.” My genius plan goes into action.
I’m on the ground crawling towards him. I’m directly behind him now. He is dressed in a business suit. He looks of great magnitude, like a military man. I take a giant leap and knock him to the ground in one swoop. Jackson tosses me his gun and I point it at his head with no intention to actually pull the trigger, but he doesn’t know that.
“What do you think you ” re doing? If I wasn’t considered sane in the big house I’d kill you.”You don’t want to do anything crazy now. Just put the gun down, then we can talk like normal human beings.”No! I’m calling the shots around here. I’m in control. Now this is what you ” re going to do. You ” re going to take me somewhere I can play this here old film. No questions, just take me there.
And if you try any funny business, God help you.” After ten minutes of nervous walking we approach this mammoth gate. There is tons of security. He better think of something clever. “How you doing private? Open the gate. We got some new recruits here. Okay, you got what you wanted now let me go.”No, you must stay and be our hostage until we get out of here safely.” I pop the film into one of those old movie players.
The contents of it surprise me. It’s nuclear secrets. It’s the location of a nuclear bomb and how to activate it. “Wow, I’ve got to try this out,” I think to myself. I take the general with us to the location of the bomb.
You are watching the control panels and gages for rector two. Sitting comely you think about how easy your job is. It is a joke! All day you sit around and watch the gages for reactor number two just to make sure they maintain their settings. You don’t even need to look at the gages either because a computer automatically regulates them without you. Life is so good. Suddenly all the sirens go of ...
He tries to warn me not to set it off, but I don’t really care what he has to say at this point. No one can stop me; I’m on a power trip. I find the spot marked X where the bomb should be. I make the general and Jackson dig up the bomb. With both of them working together it only take one and a half hours to uncover it. It comes with all the instructions with it, like a brand new toy.
This is too good to be true. My first instinct is to blow up the prison where I spent half of my life in, but I realize it would be too close and we would probably go up in flames with it. I then get the idea to bomb the Middle East. Yeah, I watch the news. I have seen what was going on over there. It’s better if I just put them out of their misery.
The general and Jackson have no clue what I’m doing and I want to keep it that way. So I very secretly set the destination on the bomb somewhere in the Middle East. I very enthusiastically and carefree set it off. By the time the general and Jackson figure out what I’ve done it was too late.
“What do you think you ” ve just done?”I’ve set mankind up a thousand steps and did what was best for this country.”You idiot, do you realize what you ” ve just done? You have just set off a nuclear bomb. It won’t just kill them; it ” ll kill us all and every living organism on the face of this earth. I’m talking about a global killer, the end of mankind. It will send a wave that travels over a 500 miles an hour across this whole planet. Now all we have to do is wait.”Whoops.”Whoops? Is that all you have to say?”Uh, I’m sorry.”.
