Tawheed al-Asmaa was-Sifaat
This is to maintain the Oneness in the Names and Attributes of Allah. To understand this there are 5 main aspects we follow.
1. We say about Allah only what He said about Himself in the Qur’an and what the Prophet (saw) said without amplification, distortion. Allah says in Surah al-Fat-h v. 6: That He may punish the hypocrites, men and women, and the pagans mean and women, who have an evil opinion of Allah. A circle of evil is around them; Allah is angry with them, curses them and has prepared for them an evil end.
It would be wrong for someone to say that by anger Allah means and intends punishment. We accept the statement of Allah that He gets angry but we do not make assimilation to the anger of the creation.
2. We refer to Allah as He has referred to Himself without giving Him any new names or attributes. For example, it is stated clearly above that Allah becomes angry but it is incorrect for one to derive the name al-Ghaadib (The Angry One) because Allah never referred to Himself with that name and neither did the Prophet (saw) ever describe Allah with that name. We are in no position to define Allah.
3. Allah is referred to without giving Him the attributes of the Creation. For ex. We are not like the Christians and Jews as they believe Allah rested after spending the first 6 days creating the universe. In another place in the bible it is said: Allah repents for His bad thoughts in the same way humans do when they realize their errors. (Exodus 32:14) [may Allah protect us from such blasphemy]
The Essay on Good vs. Evil in King Lear
Life will always bestow us with choices which we must wisely choose either a moral or immoral response to. Shakespeare exemplifies goodness and wickedness in King Lear. The play presents a powerful manifestation of loyalty, specifically through the characters Kent, Edgar, and Cordelia. Kent’s unrestricted loyalty to Lear remains stable throughout the play. He recognizes Lear’s tragic flaw and ...
4. Humans or any part of the creation cannot be given the attributes of Allah.
The Christians have given Isa (as) the divine attribute of no beginning and no end. It is also very unfortunate that some amongst the ‘Muslims’ have also fallen into this blasphemy by attributing to their Imams and Sheikhs the attribute of absolute infallibility, knowledge of the past, future, the unseen, that ability to change destiny and even control parts of the Universe.
5. Allah’s name in the definite form cannot be given to the creation unless the prefix Abd is placed. For example names in the ma’rifah form like: al-Malik, as-Salaam, al-‘Azeez are not permissible without Abd preceding them. However, the nakirah form without al is permissible.
It is also not permissible to have names that indicate enslavement to other than Allah. So, names like: Abdur-Rasool or Abd-an-Nabi are not permissible.
The basic principle of understanding Tawheed al-Asmaa was-Sifaat is found in Surah ash-Shurah v. 11: There is nothing like unto Him (Allah), and He is all-Hearing, all-Seeing.
