The Essay on Three Effective Interview Questions for an Entry-Level Employee
This essay analyzes three interview questions for an entry-level employee and explains why these questions are effective and appropriate. The first question is, “Tell me what you know about our company. ” The prospective employee should have done ample research on the company he is interviewing with. He should be able to briefly and cogently summarize the aspects of the company and its culture ...
Open questions were evidenced but the probing of Salah’s answers was not done very often. Opportunities to explore further e. g. the value he added to a job and his biggest accomplishments, were missed. On one occasion Salah took a very long time to address the question (R&S experience) and should have been interrupted to refocus him on the question asked. The question asked about how Salah dealt with pressure was reworded by Nancy who asked how he worked with a difficult person – not the same as dealing with pressure and gave a completely different response!!

Invite, and deal with, applicant questions. Salah was invited to ask questions by Reyan who I don’t think had any to ask? Close interview
Suggest letting the interviewee know when the last question is about to be asked – helps them to know the worst is over! Reyan closed the interview down formally – advise being clearer in telling Salah exactly when he would hear the outcome. Benefit from some time spent finding out e. g. length of his notice period, how best to contact him etc. Liaise effectively with other members of panel (if relevant).
Advise the panel ‘chair’ to check that you are all ‘finished’ with your questioning and happy for the interview to end before the final closing remarks.
You were a large panel and had to work harder than the other groups to maintain a cohesive and streamlined flow – you did well for a first time interview! Conduct interview within legal requirements. Interview conducted within legal requirements without any untoward questions asked! Maintain clear notes and justification for decision. You all appeared to take notes throughout the interview & appeared at ease juggling note taking/listening/questioning at the same time – were your notes sufficient?
