Organizational Behavior 2 Organizational Behavior Abstract Although believed by some to be a study of common sense, organizational behavior is a topic that is so complex and diverse the definition in its self is a changing one. It applies differently depending on the situation and there for understanding it may be a lifelong process. Organizational Behavior 3 Looking at the operational definition of organizational behavior as how it applies to my business and my life, I realize that it very well may be the single most important subject I study while I am here at UoP. By trade at Am South Bank, I work with people in two different roles.
One, I am a manager making sure that the employee’s needs are met and that they stay motivated and producing. The other is producing myself. In the bank environment, unlike other fields, we are selling non tangible products that our customers will never be able to touch or feel. Therefore, the relationship that the employee must develop with the client is the essential product. In understanding and defining operational behavior, I notice that in combines a little of everything I have ever learned about management or people and encompasses it into the words “organizational behavior.” I believe that the variables that play into each situation will vary, but the one basic constant being the people. Understanding the role of communicator, leader, role model, friend and supervisor, helps to a large part in coming to terms with ones own very definition of organizational behavior. What I see as true, others in different situations in management see as false. In under normal circumstances this is to be understandable and is the Organizational Behavior 4 reason there is no right or wrong answer in defining it. Corporate culture and personal desires I believe are the two biggest variables when it comes to the definition to organizational behavior.
From company to company, and person to person, we are always going to have undefinable variables that will alter the outcome of any situation. By continually learning our surroundings and our peers, we as managers become better managers due to our enhanced ability to motivate and retain our employees. Through life long learning of organizational behavior and the intricacies of the subject, it will allow us to define our careers and success in life on the management level.
