After becoming a single, young mother I found that I was lost, confused and had several reservations. I was alone and didn’t have anyone I knew that was in the same situation as me or had the answers to all the questions that lingered through my head daily. Living in a small town like Atchison, Kansas, I figured there were no programs being offered to young single parents or should I say I didn’t think there were any programs that were being offered to young single parents. Little did I know there was one that was going to change my outlook on development, parenting, and being the best mom and teacher I can be, for my son. I later found a program called Parents as Teachers that offered support, classes, activities, field trips, and monthly home visits at no cost to me. This was incredible! I was finally getting the answers to my questions, the support I desperately needed, reassurance that I was doing a great job, and most importantly I was getting to socialize with other parents who were in the same position as I was. This was great, but how come I had never heard about this before? Why didn’t I see posters or ads around Atchison about this organization for parents? How come there were only 11 parents participating in this group? These were all questions that came to mind after participating in this organization for the very first time. The answers to those questions were easy, it was as simple as marketing!
The Essay on Youth Rap Program Young Masshousing
Who We Are and What We Do MassHousing's Youth RAP program grew out of the concerns expressed by housing managers about the lack of resources for young people living in MassHousing developments in Boston neighborhoods. These were expressed at the Boston Inner City Task Force meetings, monthly meetings convened to bring together the parties most interested in a holistic approach to the issues of ...
They did a poor job at marketing this organization in Atchison and not many people were aware of this group or aware of what they offered. Something has to be done in my community to get this organizations name out because it could benefit hundreds of more families in my community. Parents as Teachers was founded and developed in the 1970s because educators in Missouri saw that children were starting Kindergarten with fluctuating levels of school readiness. Then in 1981, Missouri established the concept of “helping parents embrace their important role as their child’s first and best teacher.” Parents as Teachers began as a “pilot project” for first time parents of newborns. Then in 1985 after recognizing the program’s benefits and cost effectiveness, “Missouri legislature started providing state funding to implement Parents as Teachers programs in all Missouri school districts.” The main office of Parents as Teachers is located in St. Louis, Missouri and has over 1,837 programs in 50 different states and six other countries. Today, Parents as Teachers continues to “equip early childhood organizations and professionals with information and tools that are relevant-and widely applicable-to today’s parents, families and children.”
Parents as Teachers is known around the world for their appreciation of history and traditions of diverse cultures, serving families and the encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the essential early years of life. The marketing environment leaves us with incredible potential. We have the ability to impact more children and families. We have the ability to strengthen this organization. We have the ability to reach out to families who truly and desperately need our help. In the economy today, times are hard and we have the ability to help children and parents during these difficult times. After all, one of the values we live by is “all young children and families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of any demographic, geographic or economic considerations.” In Atchison there isn’t many free organizations that are helping children and parents today, so it does help us attract the attention of families in our community. We have staff that truly care and want to make a difference in these children’s lives.
The Term Paper on Cultural Differences in Parent-Child Communication
Today’s children face more diversity than their parents were when they were at the same age. The cultural differences in how the parents deal and communicate with their children around the world are a great challenge. Parent’s involvement in their children’s literacy and communication either in school, home or community will be effective through communication strategies and awareness about ...
We have monthly home visits with the children and their parents which include developmental screenings that serve two purposes- to reassure parents when the child is developing on target, and to identify problems early to assist parents with appropriate interventions. We have love and logic classes that teach parents how to hold their children accountable. This method causes the children to see their parents as the “good guy” and the children’s poor decision as the “bad guy.” We offer field trips to zoos, parks, discovery centers and different places around the Atchison area that will let the children learn, use their imagination, and bond not only with their parents but with other children as well. Finally we offer a 6 by 6 program that is held the first Monday of every month at the local Library. This program allows parents and children to get together for two hours a month for a nice free dinner, free books, activities, toys, and read aloud groups for children of all ages. Our organization has many positives but there are also several down falls. We need more teacher educators willing to give up their time to travel to different homes around the community, set up activities, hold support groups, and maintain a relationship not only with the parents but with the children as well.
We need to get more families involved and get them aware of what we do and how we can help them. By doing this I believe we would stick out from our competitors and our program would attract not only families from Atchison but also families from smaller communities around us (Horton, Effingham, Everest, and Nortonville) by word of mouth. We need better marketing techniques which will include, posters, newsletters, local TV ads, radio broadcast, billboards, a web page, and finally community fundraisers. This goal will take us around a year to achieve and around 500,000 dollars. Our funds from the fundraiser will be put aside for field trips, activities, books, dinners, and supplies needed for activities. We would like to hire 6 more employees for the Atchison area so we have enough staff to assist the families in need appropriately. Also we are going to create a family survey so families can rate us on how we did as teacher educators, how our activities were, and how satisfied they were as well as their children. By doing this I believe it is going to let the parents know that we care about how they feel and that we value them, most importantly it will show us where we need to improve at.

These plans are not only going to help our community but they are going to help increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parents practices, provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues and finally increase children’s school readiness and school success. Our organization is going to grow tremendously and we are going to be giving parents and children the help, support and resources they deserve and need. We have a great Parents as Teachers program in Atchison and there is definitely a need for it in this area. We have over 37 teenagers pregnant under the age of 16, we have almost 34 percent of our population fallen under the poverty line, we have hundreds of single parents and we have thousands of families that need the guidance and helping hand that we have to offer.
We are going to target families of all ages, of all income levels, of all religions, and single or parents still together. Once parents see what we have to offer by commercials, ads, radio broadcast, flyers, and the success of parents and children they will want to participate in this amazing organization. Whether it’s to learn more about their child’s needs, wants, health, behaviors, and development we can prove Parents as Teachers is the place they deserve and need to be. Advertising is going to be the key to making all of this happen and once all of our marketing strategies go into play, Parents as Teachers is going to be the most helpful and beneficial place for parents and children of all ages.
