An abuser is a physical and emotional action in which an individual does to someone else. The individual that suffers from the abuse is called the abused, there is different patterns and characteristics were you can find out which individual is the abuser or the abused. Concentrating on different responses from the individual, physical actions, and monitoring the individual environment can help determine which on demonstrates the patterns and characteristics of an abuser or abused. As a Human service professional there have to be procedures done, evaluations, and screenings to ensure every detail of the investigation is done accurate to determine who is the abuser or the abused if there is any issues going on at all. Accusing an individual of something that later comes back as false can carry some serious consequences if this happens. The only way to ensure this kind of mistakes does not occur is to make sure all guidelines, policies, education are used, and common sense are used.
When it concerns the screening of a family member who potentially abused or neglected a child, the patterns and characteristics or should take some deep investigation. The screening of the family should include; finding answers on how they we’re raised, what is their personal factors like, what type of situations they are dealing with, did they suffer abuse from anyone. According to the text book (Protecting Our Children 2010) “Child maltreatment is committed by family members more than 80% of the time (USDHHS, 2007a).
The Term Paper on The Relationship Between The Individual And Work And Family Has
The relationship between the individual and work and family has changed dramatically over the years. Jobs and families both demand enormous commitments of time and energy, especially during peak years of family formation and career growth. Today, jobs usually consume a third of a persons day. Americans put more hours in at work to support their families, creating more stress at home, which results ...
Parents, stepparents, grandmothers, siblings, uncles, and aunts abuse children in the family. Parents commit the majority of abuse”. With the percentage so high on the status of do family member mistreat children it can seem like a giveaway to automatically assume the abuse if going on. There will always be difference when it concerns the characteristics between an abuser and the abused.
Abuser characteristics will show an individual who hurts, humiliates, terrorize, and physically injuring the abused individual. Another difference is majority of abuser are men and the abused will be a women. Screening any type of jealousy, control, and manipulations will set the abuser apart from the abused. An individual who is abused will have characteristics of insecurities, low self-esteem, trust issues, and withdrawn symptoms. This can happen from the effects of mental or physical abuse. Screening a child for abuse or neglect can be difficult at times because the child is not fully development to understand what is wrong and right especially when the abuser is a family member the child trust. Screening a child can takes months sometimes to fully understand the characteristics that are shown. Examples of the patterns are; not able to show affection, having continuous nightmares, fear of touch, regression to common childlike behavior, and fear of individuals and environments.
The characteristics of an abuse child or neglected are; withdrawn symptoms, violent, depressed, and fearful. These characteristics have to be evaluating carefully to ensure there is not a disability that the child is suffering or the child just wants to be defiant. “When child maltreatment is suspected, going through such a list will narrow down suspicions. Remember, there are many reasons for each behavior and characteristic that is found in a checklist. Even when a child exhibits several of the identified behaviors, there may be legitimate explanations” (Protecting Our Children 2010).
The Term Paper on Problem Solving How Do We Combat Child Abuse
Imagine being a young child. Picture that someone is mistreating you, and you are completely unable to retaliate in any way. Imagine what would be running through your mind, all of the fear and hatred that you can do nothing with except hold it all inside. The United States government defines child abuse specifically as [a]ny recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which ...
Children are brought into this world of no thought or education on how to feel and deal with the changes which takes effects as they grow. This development can also cause the child to be reject the right way of how they are taught. Until the child is able to fully understand their surrounds on how to act and feel it can produce some anger, sadness, withdrawn, and fearful and this is caused by rejection to want to change.
If the characteristics are not screen accurately it can betrayed as abuse. A child is always at some point in their life around teachers, doctors, nurses and other family members to help make a checklist to determine what is exactly going on with the child, rather it is abuse or behavioral issues. Understanding the patterns and characteristics of an abused individual as well as the abuser can help to determine which way to go on the assessment process. Knowing that every assessment will not always go the same because of so many different abuse, neglect, behavioral issues, and past traumatic events it will caused the Human service professional to change the direction of the assessment. When it concerns children the proper assessment method should include; drawing, activities, using open and ending questions, focus on how the child communicates about another individual as well as how a child reacts in certain situations.
Because children show patterns of fear, withdrawn symptoms, depression the best way to start an assessment is to gain the child’s trust by showing concern, and empathy. Using pictures the child draws will be the proper method I will use because asking the child what the drawing is about will help the child get into the conversation better. This will help the child talk about what is going on in their life without the use of asking th3e child straight forward question like, who is touching you. Asking the wrong question will have the child to be distance from the professional who is controlling the assessment process. No matter if the individual is a child or an adult a proper assessment have to take place and some of the important assessments should be done. Some of the assessments include; basic information for as identification, historical information, diagnoses if any, and associated impairments. Finding the general strengths and the problems areas, this will help to know what resources to locate for the individual.

Also if there is substance abuse or mental health problems involved it have to be dealt with first because an individual may not be capable of making decisions or commit to appointments. Having an accurate assessment method will take some time, difficult times, and hard work but at the end it will serve as a positive ending. Completing the assessment with help the abuse individual live a productive life and learn how to overcome the hurt and pain they receive from abuse. Overall abuse is major concern in society, and can be overlooked if the community do not work together to see the patterns and characteristics of the abused or the abuser.
This can include doctors, teachers, peers, or family members. Knowing what to look for and notifying the right people will stop another individual from receiving abuse, and helping the abuser overcome unhealthy pattern that is causing them to abuse or neglect another individual. Society may look at the abuser do not need to be help but both parties should receive help because if Human service professionals only help the abused than it will eventually leave the abuser to do it again to someone else.
