Peace and Conflict Resolution in Southeast Asia When it comes to conflict management in all the regions of the world, we better remember that even inadequate prevention of such conflicts will do more good than the most effective ways of dealing with them after they actually take place. There are many indications, which show that there is a high potential for ethnical conflict to break out in every particular area. What has to be taken into account is percentage of populations homogeneity: the more ethnically homogeneous society is – the less there are chances of ethnically based conflicts occurring within this society. Western societies are getting more multiculturised and diversified, thus also becoming more susceptible to ethnical conflicts in the future. In countries of Southeast Asia situation is a bit different local governments are actually trying to keep their nations as homogenous as possible. In my opinion, this strategy is the best one, there are can only be ethnically conflicts when citizens of the same country dont feel as whole and pursue their own secular agendas.
In Malaysia, for example, there are no Chinese are allowed to immigrate to this country anymore as their percentage has grown too large and if situation continues to progress, it will inevitably result in ethnical conflicts in this country because Malaysian native people will feel that their well-being is going to be threatened by incoming foreigners. After adopting discriminative immigration policy, Malaysian government was being widely criticized abroad, yet as practice shows, this strategy worked. There are no ethnical conflicts being indicated in Malaysia not because there is no ethnical tension, but because government keeps the situation under control. In multicultural societies the best way to prevent ethnical conflicts consist of three simple rules: 1) If members of society with different ethnical backgrounds cannot feel as one on cultural level, they have to be encouraged to feel that way on political level. 2) Ethnical minorities need to be given an illusion that they do participate in political process. Important is to not really give them any real political rights, otherwise it will backfire.
The Essay on Huckleberry Finn Conflict Between Society And The Individual
The theme of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn is that the ideas of society can greatly influence the individual, and sometimes the individual must break off from the accepted values of society to determine the ultimate truth for himself. In Huckleberry Finn's world, society has corrupted justice and morality to fit the needs of the people of the nation at that time. Basically, Americans were ...
3) Once there is any ethnically based discontent, it has to be stumped out before it becomes a major problem. Violence usually occurs when crowd gets out of control when this happens it is important to undermine the unity of such crowd by specially designed psychological techniques. The smartest way to deal with ethnical conflicts is to never letting it occur in the first place. Yet, once situation gets out of control, there can be no effective measure taken to deal with it but military one. If government is committed to use military force to end ethnical conflicts, it has to be done quickly and resourcefully. For example, there are UN troops are posted in different regions of the world, yet as practice shows, they can never be too effective while dealing with ethnic violence. That is because their actions are limited by various international rules and regulations.
Yet, when there was an ethnic armed conflict in Cot-dIvuar in 2000, soldiers of French Foreign Legion that are posted there, had simply struck both participating sides with such ferocity that it effectively stopped any violence in that country up until recently. There are, of course, other ways to deal with ethnical conflicts such as political, cultural and economic. But all these approaches are based on the sense of logic, yet the nature of ethnic violence is very often irrational. These methods might be effective as prevention measures but they will fail if used to end ethnical violence that had already started. I personally think that ethnical conflicts occur spontaneously and they should be resolved naturally. In countries of Southeast Asia population is very dense and thats why conflicts are bound to happen.

Human life worth much less there than in Western countries and this has to be kept in mind by UN policies makers, who use universal approach in dealing with ethnical conflicts around the world. This is the reason why UN has failed to prevent violence in so many parts of the world. Ethnical conflicts are like forest fires once they start during hot season, only continuous rains can stop them. The role of firefighters is secondary one
