1.) The police must be stable, efficient, and organized along military lines.
Officers are trained in seeing the areas that the patrol as they are. Since officers no longer walk the ‘beat’, they have to rely on community involvement and outside tips. Police brutality is something that is taught to control while being trained. The issues of police brutality are played up by the media more now because it happens rarely. Working together with the community shows the stability not only of the community, but the officers who patrol. Efficiency is the follow-up from phone calls, tips, or suspicious activity. Organization comes from the Chief of Police all the way down the line to the dispatcher.
2.) The police must be under government control.
Officers must report all of the activity that they witness and follow-up. Documentation is detailed back at the station. Officers are to enforce the government’s laws whether they agree or disagree with the laws. The police are also unable to go on strike because it might cause more crime if the criminals know ahead of time about a possible union type strike.
3.) The absence of crime will best prove the efficiency of police.
People in the community believe that if they do not hear anything about crime that the police are doing their job. The same goes for the government and other various agencies and organizations.
4.) The distribution of crime news is essential.
I love receiving information about crime in my area. It keeps me abreast of information and what is going on outside of my home. It also plays a role in where people want to live. The more we know about the world around us, the more we can prepare to keep looking for it. I know that if an Amber Alert comes across my television or I see it on the freeway signs, I will help look for the car and child to the best of my ability. Shootings and murders also keep the reality that crime is a factor of every day life.
The Essay on The Relationship That Exists Between the Police and the Community
DiscriminationIn most community’s the police and the residents have some sort of trust in each other, but several others around the united states feel distrust with the police due to corruption, bad practices, and racial hate. In essence it’s clear that most community’s is a far stretch from what some would say reading this as in some places the police do not even respond to any sort of call if it ...
5.) The deployment of police strength both by time and area is essential.
If you place two or three officers in a rough neighborhood crime will not decline. The fact that officers are not in numbers in a ‘bad’ neighborhood could result in an officer’s death. There is a time and place for police action, and I think that officers do a fine job of protecting all areas. I do not think that police should be used for crowd control, but overall, timing is everything. I also feel that when I see an officer drive down the street and then a few blocks over I see another officer sitting by the side of the road, I will admit that I feel a bit safer. I know that if something should happen to me or if I should see something that happened to another individual, that there are police all around us, we just have to look.
6.) No quality is more indispensable to a policeman than a perfect command of temper; a quiet, determined manner has more effect than violent action.
I know that officers are taught to deal with their emotions rapidly without losing their temper in training, but this is sometimes not an easy aspect to handle. I know that if I had to chase after someone and finally caught them, I can not say that my adrenaline would slow fast enough for my temper to be kept in. We have all heard cases like that of Rodney King and abuse of the taser guns. Even cultural/diversity issues fall into this area. There are some that still have the mindset of the 1940’s. Not everyone is racist and the sooner people judge you for you, the quicker race will no longer play a role in human interaction.
Terrorism also comes to mind, so I will touch on that. The terrorists like Osama bin Laden does not hate America because we are many nationalities, it is not that simply. They hate us because of who we are and what we stand for. We are a free people who can worship any God, who have rights to further our education, same sex marriages, and decide to change multiple times in a lifetime to fulfill our dreams. His dream is to see America suffer for what we show the world a free nation can do. Unlike Martin Luther King, Jr., he uses God as his reasoning. I can see where he likes to control individuals to see that women in swimsuits and with minds are bad, where drugs and drinking are evil, and decisions should not be made individually, but Dr. King had a dream to see that ‘all people’ are equal regardless of sex, race, religion, or ethnicity.
The Essay on Managing a police service Area
Commanders managing a police service area faced with a number of challenges. Some of these include corruption, racial profiling, and poor cooperation and relationship between the police force and the local community. All this problems have been attributed among other reasons to insufficient training of law enforcement, discriminative administration, and lack of employee engagement. Therefore, ...
7.) Good appearance commands respect.
I have only seen officers in their uniforms. The uniforms are always neat, clean, and they do command respect with their appearance. I am glad that short haircuts for men are still intact and that women braid their hair or place it up nice to protect them from having their hair pulled.
8.) The securing and training of proper persons is at the root of efficiency.
Training and securing officers is the root of efficiency still today. Officers are trained to wear many hats and deal with the various tasks set daily for them. I give the officers much deserved credit in my city because they are always efficient with a positive attitude and willing to help out in any way. Some people should never be an officer. I wish that there was a better way to weed out some individuals, but maybe that will come in the future. When officers are prepared for some of the reality that they will face on the job, the better mentally equipped they will be.
9.) Public security demands that every police officer be given a number.
All officers are given a badge number for references for complaints and they are retired with those numbers because it symbolizes who they are. The numbers are associated with your name; so giving up your badge for something is as bad as giving up your life. Also, in the interest of public security, every officer should be marked as government personnel are, for security clearance. Some people are not able to keep secrets or handle some various truths.
The Essay on Peer Support Officers Police Supporters
Law enforcement officers face many dangers throughout their lifetime. On average, a police officer is killed every 56 hours in this country. (Central Florida Police Stress Unit inc. ) Yet, police officers often pay another price that still destroys lives: STRESS. Stress is law enforcement's hidden assailant. Job stress among police officers often means divers- an annual rate nearly three times ...
10.) Police headquarters should be centrally located and easily accessible to the people.
For Wisconsin police headquarters, they are normally located by the City Hall of a town or city, or near a school (grade school or high school).
There is a ramp for wheelchair access and the constant presence of the police. There are also various satellite offices around the area which are clearly marked.
11.) Policemen should be hired on a probationary basis.
I know that officers are hired on a probationary period still and this is usually nine to twelve months.
12.) Police records are necessary to the correct distribution of police strength.
Since more areas need more officers for crime control, records are necessary for finding out if undercover officers are needed to protect the community. I can use the example of the undercover officer that placed in my high school (1996) because of kids buying and selling drugs within the school. Many people of my class were unable to graduate that year because of this drug bust.
