Why do people appear to be something they ” re not? Does it make them feel better about themselves or does it make them have something to hide behind? The population of today has drastically changed from being the honest, full-hearted, loving people to being people who lie, cheat and are dishonorable. Why do we believe what others say, and why do their thoughts change ours? Appearance is something we can see and we can be made to believe. It hides us from reality which many people don’t want to see or know. Appearance and reality are greatly connected as what people see is what they believe. Consequently their beliefs become their reality. People of today can appear to be nice and loveable, when really they are depressed and lonely.
To appear to be something your not helps people get through rough times, it helps them seek out a new way to start their lives. For instance, in the book entitled “Ties that Bind, Ties that Break” a young girl is brought up with the history that Chinese women bind their feet. To not bind your feet was a disgrace and women without bound feet would not be able to receive a husband and a loving household. People only looked at the appearance of these women and not the reality they faced by breaking a century old tradition. Luckily these women broke free and thought for themselves instead of what they were destined to become.
People crave attention and they want (in their own way) to be noticed and to become a part of history. Due to this the will to be noticed is so strong. people feel that if they can lead a life that isn’t their own and be pulled along by someone else they may be able to achieve better things. Therefore, hiding behind masks makes people lives a lot easier, they don’t have to face up to doing something wrong. The appearance of being greater than you are has led to many unfortunate happening in the world around us.

Nevertheless it shows us how appearing to be something your not, can become your reality and even the worlds reality. In the past people have tried to appear to have more power than everyone else. Society has followed in the footsteps of these people until they are made to see what is happening. That’s when reality kicks in. People need to be able to think for themselves and not have someone think for them. For instance, reading the book “The Cage” I realized that people around the world were convinced that Jewish People were indeed animals.
Not until after many had suffered did people realize what they had done. No one can forget what has happened to the Jewish population, as this is one of the biggest examples of what appearance can do to change the way people think. Just ones mans idea became a reality, his thoughts and hopes became everyone else’s and this changed history. Therefore, people need to believe in themselves and they need to realize that life is a one shot thing. People need to be less influenced by the world around them. Reality is hard to find as people are working their way around it, forcing themselves to appear to be something they ” re not.
If people feel they can get ahead by doing this then they should realize that you will only get hurt. However, people must realize that what comes around goes around and that saying holds reality.
