Performance-enhancing drugs
Drugs have been used in sports almost as long as sports themselves have been around. More than ever, performance-enhancing drugs are being abused by athletes. In Canada, we, the people value several things, some of which are freedom, expanding and taking care of our families and our financial security. We, the people, take such things for granted. We also discourage some behavior, such as crime, laziness and use of illegal drugs. The biggest scandal of drugs in sports is the Olympics. The bottom line is that the athletes have trained hard and given their life to the Olympics. What’s their motivation for performance-enhancing drugs? Money. Winning. Being in the spotlight for 15 minutes. Although some people do not get caught, the risks are huge for the athletes who do. Drug use has consequences for all aspects of human life, including legal, physiological, psychological and philosophical issues. Why are the drugs illegal? It has been said that the usage of drugs is an unfair way used by athletes to achieve their goal, therefore it s just like cheating. Users of these drugs usually suffer from very bad side effects that may even result in death. And also in using these drugs, not only can it create an interference to Sportsmanship, it can also create a great impact to the good name of the Olympic Spirit. Usage of drugs not only affects the person, but the country they’re representing.
There might be a little hope to keep the Olympics running if people stop being too money minded and start to think more sensibly or fairly.
