There are standards that i need to be aware of and understand how they influence my work these standards are : Care standards act, health and safety at work act, manual handling operations regulations, codes of practice, national occupational standards. Every person has different beliefs and attitudes and most of these are from how we are raised and are very hard to change, but when at work you must try and keep them in the background and view each resident and staff member you are working with as objectively as you can and not let these interfere with how you do your job and how you treat people. Outcome 2
Explain why reflecting on work activities is an important way to develop knowledge, skills and practice. Reflecting on work activities is a great way to develop the skills that I have already and discover things that I don’t know, it allows me to set my mind to finding ways to develop my current knowledge and improve it and to fill in any gaps in my knowledge. To be able to reflect on what I did in the past in my job is a valuable personal skill which I can use to further my skills without the need for training or textbooks. Learning not to repeat any mistakes I have made, and recognizing mistakes before they happen can help a person be more efficient in their job. I have been working in care for around 5 years, i have done both night shift and day shift.

I have many tasks in my role such as, i do the household cleaning of a nighttime, i care for the residents while they are sleeping such as pad changes, making the residents comfortable, giving them drinks if they need them during the night. I also give out medication if any night medication is needed to be given. I am very profesional in my job i treat each resident as an individual and not as a group, each resident is different they have different needs and beliefs and should not be treated the same.
Outcome 3
Identify sources of support for own learning and development. There are many types of support to help with my own development and learning such as : supervision and appraisals from senior staff members can be very helpful because it is an outside opinion from my own and they may be able to identify areas that I may need to improve on, and can recommend appropriate training or courses that I could go on. Asking questions to other staff members can help as they may be more knowledgeable about certain aspects of the job than I am. The more I work alongside other carers and staff the more my skills in the job will improve as I am learning everyday I am on the job. My personal development plan is decided when me and my mentor/ senior do a 1 to 1 assessment which is done at certain points during the year. We go through how i think i am doing and how my mentor thinks i am doing. We discuss wether my lifeplans are up to date ( i fill out the sleep section of the lifeplan and make any changes ).
We also discuss wether i feel i need any additional training. I will go through a blank handout with my assessor and discuss how it is filled out.
