1. What is the philosophy of the counseling profession? How has this changed over time? Why is this important to study?
A. My practical view of the philosophy of the counseling profession is that each session is a journey of self-exploration by the client, meant to increase his/her level of self-understanding and self-awareness.
B. The counseling profession itself is a little more than a hundred years old. A license can be gained in almost every state for the profession. In order to unify the profession as a whole though there are still steps that need to be taken. But the only way to accomplish this is through placing the profession aehead of the agenda of the politicians or for personal gain. Counseling has gone global through the use of technology. Frequently used by many professional both national and international are evidence based and cogonitive based approaches. Both are effective but must be checked consistently for effectiveness for each client. The current state of counseling one could say was standing on a cliff. The future you could say is very promising and should be an exciting one with the new develoments in technology, neuroscience, and the unification of the profession. One significant threat to the profession is the splitting of some counselors into different groups.

2. How does personality apply to counseling theories?
An individuals personality will often either help or hinder the counseling process. Sometimes it can get in the way of seeking solutions to certain issues and problems. This can often times cause an individual to not explore obvious ways of dealing with hard personal and emotional issues. Sometimes we can have the answer in the front of us and because of our personality choose to not follow the help given to us by way of counselling assistance. An individuals inner self needs all the positive inspiration it can get and our personality is vital element to accepting what we require for our own good. Accepting that our internal self is a emotion, and instinctive, self also empowers us to work towards pursuing direction to decide disputes and anxieties that have developed and matured.

3. What is a theoretical orientation in counseling? What value does following a theoretical orientation bring to counseling?
Theoretical orientation is the concept of understanding of how a person’s problems develop and how the person’s problems can be solved. Theoretical orientation is the guiding principle in the organization of treatment and provides the counselor with information on interaction with the client. Establishing a theoretical orientation in counseling is vital to mental health profession, without a basis of knowledge on how to respond will often lead to the thinking that the counselor in incompetent in the field. Development of a theoretical orientation is often initiated and enhanced through the personal experiences, readings, and work history. Often it is derived from the belief system and significant relationships of the counselor themselves.

4. What ethical concerns may arise in counseling? How can you prevent potential ethical dilemmas when counseling clients?
Some ethical concerns that may arise in counseling. The ethical delimma comes into play when the counselor has to decide between the human duty, right or wrong. Sometimes ethical delimmas place the counselor in a position that compromises the counseling effectiveness and the trust that the client has in the counselor. One important concern is that of confidentiality. Confidentiality encompasses a vast are of subjects such as suicide, abuse of elderly, child abuse, threats endangering lives of others, or just plain confidentiality of paperwork. Some issues of ethics addressed by counseling board are issues related to assessments and diagnosis processes. Regardless of the ethical issue at hand, confidentiality is iimportant to explain the rights to the client and knowing the confidentiality limations on issues endangering yourself or lives of others. At the beginning of each session the client should be notified of consent, this helps set the boundaries for both the client and the counselor.
