Poetry: The Solution
In the “Seven Stages of Man,” Shakespeare suggests that “All of the world is a stage, and the men and women just merely players.” Are all humans just players in life? There are many confusing questions about many confusing issues. In an a sence, poetry is a method of debating issues. By defining poetry, evualating poetry, and noticing the impact it has on lives, we can decide that poetry helps us clear foggy thoughts and ideas.
The art of poetry is age-old, and has always been a way to ponder ideas of which we may be unable to understand. There are many other ways to look at poetry, though. One could see poetry as just another senseless way of writing a story, such as “Casey at Bat.” However, another could look at poetry as written expressions and ideas, and a way to understand life and the happenings and issues of life, rather than just the work of a poet. But what defines a poet? Are certain, gifted people poets, or are all of us poets? In way, we all are. Being a poet does not mean that they have to be equivalent to Edgar Allen Poe, or Shakespeare. Any poetry is good if there is a point or idea expressed. The poem could even tell a story. If the poem has a meaning to the author, it is good. Even if society thinks that the work is bad, it may still be good. Poetry in this situation can be compared with art. Van Gogh, a well-known artist, was not famous until after his death. He was an outcast, and very poor, and the society did not acknowledge his work during his life time.
Poetry is an excellent way to think through concepts. Poetry helps one clear their feelings and look at their life from a different perspective. Now, poetry could be compared to meditation. They are the same in the way both help the person remove themselves from their position, stand back, and look at everything as a whole, not just from one point of view.
Poetry has always been an art that requires skill, not a hard-to-achieve skill, but one that everyone has. The skill is to be able to feel and express emotions about ideas or concepts that one does not understand. By looking at what makes writing poetry, and what makes a poet, one could say that poetry helps to clear un-understandable thoughts.
