Marcus Jordan is a 16 year old boy that Just moved to a new town in the middle of summer. He was on the football team at his previous school and intended to be on the one in his new school, so he practiced by himself at a park. That shows that he is very disciplined and determined (page one, paragraph three).
Out of nowhere, this other figure comes in and starts practicing with Marcus. His name was Charlie, and it looked to be like he was in his mid forties. It turns out he’s very good at football.
Marcus had no idea who this guy was but in the text it describes Marcus having a very competitive nature (page five, paragraph two).
Charlie throws the ball too high and it breaks the window of a car. Charlie ditches the crime scene. Marcus could have just as easily ditched too but decides to leave a note with his phone number so he could pay for it, which shows that he’s an honest guy (page 8, paragraph 3).
There are several examples of this throughout the story, like when he offered to pay for the ice Charlie just took from the store ( page 28 , paragraph 8).
Charlie Popovich is an around 50 year old ex NFL player who randomly runs into Marcus (who he called Mac) in Three Alarm Park (page 3 paragraph 4).
From the beginning you can tell there is something odd about Charlie. You can just tell by the way he acts to situations. Like for example when he broke the window of the exterminator guy, instead of helping Marcus sort things out so they could pay for it, he ran and left Marcus to pay the whole thing by himself (page 8, paragraph 3).

Marcus thinks its weird how he acts and googling a few things he finds out that some football players get Alzheimer at an early age, do to so many concussions (page 112 , paragraph 2).
So depending on what Charlie sees, he remembers from whats left of his memory. Like when he’s with Marcus in Three Alarm Park Charlie thinks it’s his high school friend James MacTavish. On page 251 it also mentions he’s charismatic and quirky. The book is mainly based on the sport football, though it covers the themes of family, conscience, friendship and loss. This books theme is mainly about football, but other important themes it covers are family, conscience friendship, and loss. I chose the last chapter of the book Charlie’s funeral because I thought it was a very fitting ending. It covers all the themes in just a few pages. The first two things being loss and friendship. It’s hard when you lose someone, especially if that person is one of your close friends. Marcus and Jordan met Charlie in the most unexpected way and in the following three months, Marcus cared about Charlie to the extent that he took him to his homecoming when nobody else would.
It must have been really hard for Marcus when one of the only friends he had in his new town passed away. I know how it has been for me when I have lost loved ones. Conscience means a sense of right and wrong with the urge to do right. After the funeral Marcus could have just gone home with his mom, but decided to go to the Popovich home to pay his respects. And there he was enduring the uncomfortableness of it all because he new it was the right thing to do. Also when he went and sat with Troy.
He knew he could have left, but there was sitting next to Troy and they contemplated on Charlie. If you ask me Charlie is a very conscientious guy. The next thing this chapter covers is family. After the funeral service, Marcus arrives at the Popovich home. Only close friends and family are there. While he was there he bumps into Chelsea, he thought she would be mad at him but she said the he was really happy for what he had done to her dad, that her dad loved him, that he knew Charlie better than anyone in the family, and that he was pretty much family.
