1.Both presidents while in office had to adjust the tariff’s to be able to work with the economy and the people. Jefferson was more looking towards the richer higher class of people and to the leaders of the states, but Jackson not having the best of an education realized that America was not just about the rich people, but also about the middle and lower class of people and the democratic government. Jefferson basically was for the state while Jackson was for the people, but not only the rich higher class people.
2.President Jackson’s handling of the South Carolina nullification crisis may be described as “masterful”. I agree to this statement because he did what was smart for the future not just there and then. Jackson used both “carrot and stick” to overcome the potential threat of stability by not beating the south, but sparing the Union without a total victory, he did this by initiating a compromise. This just could spare the union without a total victory which in politics leads to an eventual defeat.
3.Clay’s behavior during the nullification crisis was very heavily weighted to compromise; Clay is the one who derives credit from being willing to compromise for, he through it all still managed to preserve his precious tariffs. Jackson’s accomplishments can not by dismissed so lightly for through the careful use of presidential powers, rallying the people to his side, alerting the military, offering compromise while preparing for treason, he persevered the Union and upheld the supremacy of federal law.
