Presidential Election Speech
Hello my as many of you know my name is John Moriarty. I am running as the Democratic Candidate for President of the United States of America. So that you understand my positions on certain issues I will tell you a little about myself. I was born on August 16, 1948, my father was a former U.S. senator. I grew up in the Bronx, of New York, and I received a degree in Government from Harvard University. After I graduated I volunteered for enlistment in the U.S. Army and I served in Vietnam.
When I returned to civilian life I married a woman named Nicole Swift, who is my wife to this day. We then started a family, in 1973 I had my first son named John, and in 1980 I had another son named James. I then studied Law at Vanderbillt Law School. In 1976 I was elected to represent New York in the U.S. House of Representatives, I was also elected to U.S. Senate in 1984 and again in 1990. I will now state my position on 4 separate issues that are current in the United Sates today.
The first issue I will talk about is abortion. I am pro-choice, I do feel that women should have the right to choose if they want an abortion or not. Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in the United States today. One out of every three pregnancies never takes place because a woman has an abortion. It is understood that a new individual human begins growing in the mother’s uterus at fertilization. The term abortion refers to any premature expulsion of a human fetus. Approximately 93 percent of all induced abortions are done for elective, non-medical reasons. In 1973, the Supreme Court handed down Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalizing abortion in all 50 states during all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason, medical, social, or otherwise. This problem has split America in to two sides; pro – choice and pro – life. In January 22, 1973 U. S Supreme Court declared that a women had the ” Fundamental Fight” to have an abortion. I agree with the ruling the Supreme Court made I will stand by it.
The Research paper on Abortion: Ethical Issues 2
This research paper will focus on the ethical dilemma of abortion. The Supreme Court decision of 1973 (Roe v. Wade) made abortion legally available to women within the first two trimesters of a pregnancy. Abortions are legal in many states, but are they ethical? Does the healthcare industry consider the ethical dilemma of abortion as ending a life? Do individual practitioners have a choice when it ...
The next issue I am going to elaborate on is gun control. I am very supportive of controlling the amount of guns that are distributed, I feel that there is too many crimes with illegal guns that happen everyday. Our constitution guarantees our citizens the right to bear arms, we cannot make gun ownership illegal. We can minimize the problem by doing some of following things. Require all gun owners to be licensed. Require all guns to be registered to licensed owners. All guns would be required to have a serial number. Guns without serial numbers would be given one. Any unregistered gun would be taken away. The gun could be returned after the owner gets their license. Gun sales to unlicensed individuals would be prohibited. Whenever a gun is sold the previous owner would report the sale including the new owner’s license number. A previous owner not reporting a gun sale could be liable for fines and/or damages. Licenses would not be granted to convicted criminals. Those requirements would not stop the unnecessary violence, it would cut down on the number of guns in general circulation that are being used for illegal activities. Law abiding gun owners should not disagree with these requirements because there are no restrictions on gun ownership for lawful citizens. Gun owners and dealers will be more careful with who they sell to. Criminals will not register or get licensed, and as their guns are confiscated the supply of illegal guns will be reduced.
The next issue is Social Security Reforms. Social Security has been a constant promise between generations. But, it faces new challenges as the number of Americans over the age of 65 is expected to double from 35 million in 2000 to more than seventy million in 2035. In 1999, there were 3.4 workers for every Social Security recipient and by 2035 there will only be 2.0 workers per recipient. I believe that we must use the budget surpluses to strengthen Social Security until at least 2050. I am proposing to devote all Social Security surpluses to Social Security and debt reduction. My balanced budget plan moves the entire Social Security surplus to debt reduction and to improve Social Security. I believe Social Security should not be damaged by a large tax cut that spends Social Security surpluses. I will strengthen Social Security until at least 2050 by using the long-term interest savings. My plan to reduce the publicly held debt by nearly $2.2 trillion over the next ten years will produce significant interest savings. In 2011, the interest savings will be about $120 billion. These interest savings transfers will grow to about $250 billion yearly after 2015. I will improve fairness for widows, widowers, and mothers. I have a financially responsible plan to strengthen Social Security and add new guarantees of fairness for widows, widowers, and mothers. While fixing unfair penalties, these changes affect less than five percent of the Social Security surpluses. The savings from long-term interest would fully pay for my proposals to modernize Social Security’s benefits, eliminating the motherhood penalty and improving the widow benefit extending flexibility until at least 2050.
The Essay on Gun Control 38
Since the American Revolution and the creation of the Second Amendment of the Bill Of Rights, America has been given the right to personally own and bear arms. In the past decade, we, the responsible citizens have seen the number of individually owned guns skyrocket out of control. The possession of guns in a home brings a false sense of security which can endanger lives, and not only to those ...
The next and final issue I will be discussing is a national health care program for children. My plan would ensure that every child has access to affordable health care coverage by 2005, by expanding coverage under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
More than 11 million children in America do not have health insurance. Uninsured children are less likely to get immunizations and annual check-ups. Millions of uninsured children across the nation are still not eligible for CHIP, and many eligible children have not been enrolled because of cumbersome barriers in some states. More than 85 percent of parents who have children eligible for or enrolled in CHIP do not have health insurance. My program will expand access to affordable health care to every child, provide affordable health care to more adults, and make long term care more affordable. It would allow uninsured parents, as well as their children, to obtain health insurance under CHIP and Medicaid. It would provide affordable coverage to a growing number of uninsured Americans ages 55 to 65, by allowing them to buy Medicare coverage with a 25 percent tax credit. The plan would expand access to affordable health care coverage to every child in America by 2005 and hold states accountable for signing kids up for CHIP. It would expand CHIP to children in families with lower incomes, and allow children in families with higher incomes to buy into the program. My plan would also extend a $3,000 tax credit to support families or individuals with long-term care needs.
The Essay on Health Care and Affordable Care Act
Formally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), “ObamaCare” has many functions that are unknown to the public and because of this ignorance many people do not approve of it. As you continue reading, the facts about ObamaCare will be presented and then you can make an informed decision on whether or not you agree with the public policy. The Affordable Care Act was signed ...
