My main goal in receiving a DMA is to expand my knowledge and love for the art of music, specifically piano. I am very involved in my specialty and own a business that allows me to give back to my students all the knowledge I have of precise piano playing. I would like to expand more onto what I know and be awarded the ability to study with the best teachers and intermingle with other students, who have went out into the world and changed it for the better through their art.
I have many diverse interests, including web design, painting, reading, and other artistic endeavors that make me feel like a well-rounded individual. I think that my diverse background and array of interests has really helped me in developing innovative ways to teach my students how to read and play music. I still believe there is much more for me to learn and even more to give back to not only pianists, but any student, who may come to me with questions about their love of the arts and how to do well with their talents.
I have been extremely fortunate in the past to have had wonderful teachers and supportive parents. Going for my DMA is part of this important step into furnishing others with the tools I have been given by being a part of a supportive college community that can contribute to my career and my continued caring for music. I must say that mentally, I am very well-prepared for this program. By looking at my resume and transcripts, you can see this. What is not on paper and is important for you to understand is how much emotion I feel through music.
The Essay on Music As Art. My Favorite Music Style
Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence that are organized in time in a special way. Its common elements are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. In the historical context the development of music is inseparable from the active development of person’s ...
When I experienced an accident, where I broke my fingers and had to undergo a year of recovery, I really realized how much music meant to me. I struggled through this period in as much physical pain as emotional. I wondered if I could ever be able to play piano again and if my dreams would be as shattered as my fingers. When I did recover, I vowed that I would see my dream of taking my music and talents to the highest level possible and to never take my abilities for granted. I must say that I always studied and diligently played my music well before this experience, but I never realized how important it was.
Now I hear many of my students talk about their dreams for their futures and how music is all the want to do with their lives. Before my injury, I would not have understood how passionate people could be about their dreams and their careers. I just though that my musical path had been relatively easy and would be easy from that point on. I realized then and know now that nothing in life that is worthwhile is easy and when people tell me about their dreams for their career and future, I know how passionate they feel.
I am really excited to help them see their potential while I am building more on my own. In closing, I would like to reiterate how mentally prepared and emotionally excited to begin your program. My history and philosophy of having prepared myself professionally to give back to others, through teaching music is not finished. I have more work to do and would really relish the opportunity to learn from your professors how to continue to grow in my career.
