With a noble intention of serving human kind, Nursing took the mainstream of my ambition. Stories of Florence Nightingale in my schooling days had a great impact on my life. Thus my aspiration took the center stage of my life and Associate Nurse degree in India.
My desire to excel in my profession took a big leap when I shifted to USA 20 years ago. Ever since, there has been no looking back. Working as Registered Nurse at Templeton, I opted online course to complete Bachelors in Nursing. And I did. Truly so, nothing succeeds like success. Encouraged by success, my ambition grew more to be a Nurse Practitioner.
Over the number of years as a Resident Nurse, I have developed a close relationship with my patients that took me much beyond the boundaries of the hospital, and I could relate to my patients with utmost ease, and understand their feelings.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I wish to take another step forward to fill up the gap between patients and physicians. I could work in conjunction with physicians to give patients the much needed compassion, strength and advocacy and enlighten them about primary health care which is the right of every citizen. This would bless me with an opportunity to widen my role as a nurse, allowing me to diagnose and treat acute and chronic health problems like dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, urology, and hematology in a variety of clinical practice.
I could extend my professional touch in respect to women’s health, college health, psychiatric health, pediatric health, emergency rooms, nursing homes, public health etc. Additionally, as a Nurse practitioner, can get involved in tele-health and enable to evaluate, monitor and follow up with patients availing advanced telecommunication system.
As I have experienced a lack of emphasis of health care to rural areas, as a Nurse Practitioner I can be instrumental in extending my services especially to rural population and ensure special attention and care to chronic diseases like Congestive Heart Failures, Diabetes, mental illness etc. and thus be instrumental in making an apparent difference to the patients and be an asset in the field of health care for individuals, families and communities.
I can as a Nurse Practitioner broaden my services for primary health care as there is a visible shortage of general physicians as most of them are opting for specialty practice. With a certain perpetual changes in social and economical, I can adapt and reach out to much more especially in rural and less reachable areas and make primary health care more accessible and affordable with shift of certain responsibilities to Nurse Practitioner to enable better implementation of Affordable Care Act to even vulnerable and undeserved sections of the society. Prescription of medications, provide treatment for acute minor illnesses and infections like sinus, throat, urinary tract etc.
