Computer Systems Analysts improve existing computer systems and develop new ones. They begin by gathering information. They talk to the managers and staff and find out what their needs are. Once the goals are clear, they determine if they need to design a new software system. Once the system is set up, the analysts train staff how to use it. They may have to write manuals and documentation on how to use the system. Some analysts are employees of the organization where they do the work. This type of analysts also helps staff solve problems with their computers. There is a rapid spread of computers and information, so a computer systems analyst must keep their knowledge up-to-date by reading manuals and magazines. They may also take classes.

You should participate in speech classes, and sports and leadership roles.

Computer systems analysts will have a medium level of social contact. They work alone programming, and also work with the staff. They train employees how to use programs. They usually work at least 40 hours a week, and sometimes will have to work evenings and weekends when deadlines need to be met. They sometimes will travel to seminars, trade shows, and training. They work in clean, well-lit offices, but because they work at a computer station all day, they are susceptible to repetitive strain injury and eye fatigue. They should take frequent breaks from their work to prevent these types of injuries.
