From the time that I was a child, numbers have held a fascination for me; and ever since I can remember, Mathematics has always been my strongest subject. All throughout preparatory, primary and secondary school and even during my Ordinary Level exams (GCE) I was among the top mathematics students at my school – the Beacon house School System. As far as my future goals are concerned, I have decided that I should pursue a career that is based on and around numbers. This was my view when I embarked upon my Advanced level program at the Lyceum where, I have received a distinction in Mathematics throughout the year. Because I had a natural flair for mathematics, I quickly assimilated concepts and formulas; and so my teachers recommended that I complete the entire A’ Level mathematics course in one year instead of the usual two. During my summer vacations, I had the opportunity to intern at the Headquarters of the esteemed Jupiter Insurance Company on Chundrigar Road, that is the heart of the city’s financial district.
There I had the unique opportunity of gaining hands on experience of the workings of insurance company. What I enjoyed most was that it gave me a chance to apply my Mathematical and analytical skills in a practical manner. At the end of my internship, I was quite sure that this was the field I wanted to pursue. I have two reasons for opting for Actuarial Mathematics. One of the reasons is that Actuarial Mathematics is a very challenging and exhilarating field. Since I have always enjoyed taking on challenges, I feel I can handle this profession and even be a credit to the institution that I join.
