Red light cameras have positive economic benefits. One of the benefits is increasing income for the city. The city may use this money for improvements to public roads. Furthermore, when cities use the red light cameras, they do not need to use policeman at intersections. The red light monitors traffic violence and helps the police to do their job. Also, the city could use policemen for other uses ,such as home crime or family abuse. Finally, the red light cameras reduce costs from collisions and injuries. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study showed a decrease in front-into-side crashes at intersections with cameras.
Overall, the red light cameras decreased the cost of collisions. In addition, recoveries after non-serious accidents are often easier and faster.
