Rednecks Vs Gangstaz: two oddly similar (and horrible) subcultures
Rednecks, A culture full of white-trash, dirt poor, racist hicks. Gangstaz, A community that is predominately coloured and that enjoys flashy jewelry, or “ice” as well as low rider tuner cars and a “thuggin’” lifestyle. One wouldn’t normally consider these two relatable, but upon looking deeper, it can be seen that while these two subcultures differ greatly on the exterior, gangstaz and rednecks share many common traits. The underlying connections between these two groups teach a valuable lesson in how people shouldn’t make judgments, and are just plain funny to think about.
Both of these groups can easily defined by the music that they listen to. The twangy guitars, and sing-song-y vocals associated with country music, appeal ever so much to rednecks, while the heavy bass and baritone raps of hip-hop strike a chord with gangstaz. To start by looking at hip-hop one notices first and foremost it’s lyrical content. Stories of gang violence, objectification of women, and countless references to drugs and alcohol use permeate into almost every hip-hop artists’ music, From Tupac, to Flo-Rida, Eminem to Ice Cube, the music consistently speaks of subjects frowned upon by the average American citizen. Gangstaz appreciate this though, and do their best to emulate it. In Hip-Hop the main focus of the music is on the vocals, there is usually little to no instrumentation other than a drum beat and maybe some synths, and even so the vocals always play the pivotal role in the music, and their prominence usually has them tell a distinctive story. This emphasis on vocals also leads the music to be under a single artists’ name, rather than a group. While there are some rap groups such as N.W.A. or Doomtree, Most Hip-hip hop Music Culture Rap">hop music comes from a singular artist Such as 50 Cent, or Kid Rock.
The Essay on Multiculturalism In Music Hip Hop
Visualize in your head a rock band, and a rapper. What kind of clothes are they wearing. What lyric styles are they singing in? And what color are they? Ongoing stereotypes suggest that the rock band is a group of white musicians and the rapper would be black. However, examples from the past and present shows that these stereotypes are untrue. Music is defined as "The art of organizing tones to ...
Country also has a large emphasis on the vocals rather than the instrumentation. Instruments are more crucial to country than in rap, but the vocals stills overpower the music most of the time, and the guitars and drums usually serve as a backing for the Singer to weave a wonderful story that will captivate the listeners. Johnny Cash is a fine example of this, his distinctive vocal style is what drives all of his music, and the instrumentation he used often works to back-up his voice, rather than to be the main focus. Again, the emphasis on vocals in country music lead most country musicians to be singular artists such as Garth Brooks, or Taylor swift, rather than an entire group. There are more country groups, than there are hip-hop groups, but in this style of music the singular artist still dominates the field.
Kid Rock is actually the ideal link between hip hop music and country as he is an artist that started in one genre (hip hop) and then moved into the other (country).
He is also one that exemplifies the parts of hip-hop music explained above, and also the country stylings still to come. On his older albums (Devil Without a Cause, Cocky) Rock Uses filthy language and has music that indeed focuses on his rapping rather than the music, but on his more recent albums (Rock N Roll Jesus, Born Free) He has moved into a country style, which actually is quite similar to the rap he did before. In country music the lyrics also focus on sexism, and excessive drinking, celebrating this and encouraging fans of the music to partake in the mistreatment of women and over consumption of alcohol. Obviously not all country music does this, and neither does all hip hop, but these lyrical themes are common in the music.

"Music goes deeper than emotion into the energies that animate our psychic life." (Sessions) American adolescents are slowly adapting their everyday life to music. Music's impact on teenagers change their perceptions on life in many different ways: it shapes who they are by their ...
Both rednecks and gangstaz love to blast their music, and they have other cultural similarities as well. Their cultures are also a lot more similar than people may think. Both are incredibly showy cultures and both take pride in a low income lifestyle. Showing off is prominent in both of these cultures, In gangstaz it takes the form of excessive jewelry, tricked and tuned out cars, and distinctive clothing styles. Gangstaz love gold chains, large diamond earings, and really anything that is made of a precious metal that they can wear somewhere on their body. Grillz anyone? Their cars get a similar look. Gangstaz often take either dirt cheap, or incredibly expensive cars and destroy their value by “pimping them out” by adding undercarriage lights, spinning rims, vinyl stickers, two-tone paint jobs etc. This is done to bring attention to the cars, and the people driving them. Gangstaz love attention it seems, this is also shown in their clothing choices. Big hats, and sagging pants are very noticeable and when gangstaz rock this look they are instantly identifiable.
Rednecks share a similar craving for attention. It seems they don’t do this quite to the extent that gangstaz do, but they do spend excessive money on making something look so stupid that it has to be noticed. Monster trucks exemplify this idiocy completely. Taking a large truck that has quite a bit of practical use to a redneck, and outfitting it with an incredibly tall suspension and gigantic tires in order to make it so large that it would be almost impossible to do any practical work with it. But it’s big and noticeable so that’s all that really matters right? Rednecks also show off through tractor pulls, and through a distinctive clothing style that consists usually of either plaid shirts, or Tees that have some offensive or vulgar message. These T-shirts can be seen all over, and when one looks at those wearing them, they’ll almost always find a redneck.
Poverty is something that these two cultures also both like to take pride in. Gangstaz consistently talk about their “street cred”, how much they know the street, and growing up in a poor neighborhood usually gives you more of this “cred” as you have had a harder life. They brag about growing up in the projects, and try to be more “ghetto” than the other gangstaz in their area. It’s almost a competition to see who grew up/lives with a harder life. It’s similar for rednecks, they take pride in working blue-collar jobs and not caring very much about their home. They usually use their money on things that they do not need, and in turn end up poor and living in sub-par conditions. They laugh at “city folk” who work hard and make a good living, and pride themselves in their ability to just work hard and not live a glamorous lifestyle.
The Term Paper on Youth Culture in Japan
There is hope that they can reconcile the best qualities of traditional Japanese culture, with its emphasis on the group, with the individualism and voluntarism demanded by information-based societies. 1. 1: Modernization and Youth Culture in Western Europe Modernization, which consists of urbanization, industrialization, and the development of an information-based society, began in British ...
The final interesting connection that rednecks and gangstaz share is their use of vernacular. Both of these groups commonly speak English, but neither of them speak it well. They both use large amounts of slang as well as an exaggerated accent, and an excessive amount of profanity. Gangstaz have brought many new words to the English language, Snoop Dogg alone could probably make his own dictionary of words he has created, but gangstaz as a whole use incredibly large amounts of slang in their language. Words and phrases such as “trick”, “hoe”, “fo shizzle”, and “homey” are just some of the more common ones used, but there are more. Rednecks have their own slang as well. “Darn’ Tootin’” and “y’all” are some common slang words. Redneck slang is more focused on pronouncing normal words in an odd way, (example: Pronouncing Georgia as Jaw-jah) rather than creating new words, as is the case with gangstaz, this can also qualify as an accent, something that both rednecks and gangstaz have. Rednecks use an exaggerated accent to seem “country” to their buddies, and Ganstaz use their own exaggerated accent to seem more “thuggin’” to their own friends. Profanity also permeates these 2 cultures, and is used in a similar manner to build up credibility in both redneck and gangsta communities. Both groups are known for having incredibly filthy mouths. I won’t specifically mention any words as one can imagine what they may say, but both groups swear incessantly and use it as a way to just be more abrasive, as both cultures have a way of stirring up controversy among middle America.
There is one large difference however, that rednecks and gangstaz have. This is their preferred place to live. It’s hard to imagine a redneck that doesn’t live in the country, or a gangsta that doesn’t reside in a large city. This is because almost every person who fits in to one of these two categories lives in these areas. Redneck culture derives from farm culture, so therefore they live in areas where farming is prevelant, in the country. Gangstaz can’t really claim to be “thug” if the grew up in a suburb, and usually they don’t even try. Gangsta culture stems out of poor neighborhoods in the inner city and almost all gangstaz do as well. The city and country are exact opposites in terms of living spaces, and that was the main reason these 2 cultures are usually viewed as different rather than similar. This is only one difference though, among a host of incredible similarities.

After examining The music, the Culture and the vernacular of these two (not so) different groups, one gets a better understanding of what they are about and hopefully has learned something about that old cliché to not judge someone based off a first impression.
