Throughout my life from kindergarten all the way up to my senior year in high school I really didn’t care for any English classes. I simply believe that this is because I didn’t understand the subject at all, and when you tend to not understand something it makes it that much harder. So my junior and senior year in high school I took pride in getting a solid A out of my English two and three classes. I was able to go to my teachers and ask them for some much needed help on how to construct a healthy paper. I soon got the hang of the basics and practiced the principles they had showed me and grew as a writer.
I knew that I had improved my writing but I also knew that I was still missing some vital skills and had many loopholes that I needed to fill. When I registered for Wright College and was enrolled in English 101 I knew that this was just another opportunity for me to learn more about English and how to write a solid paper. I knew that this was a good time for me to grab a hold to a lot of information that I had missed in high school. With all of the information you gave me I did just that every time you wrote on the board I wrote it down so that I could come back to it later.
I knew that if I were to write it down I will not only use it for this English class but for future English classes as well. So what did I really learn? I learned how to construct a MLA format, which I believe is very important for me. When I finally transfer and move on to a four-year university I know that I will be using this skill that I have learned. I have many friends who attend four-year universities and they tell me that knowing how to write an essay is vital information. By me knowing this I pay close attention on how to write a successful essay on any topic I am given.

In my first semester of college not only did I move forward in writing but towards my goal of transferring to a four year university. I met with my academic advisor on many occasions to construct myself an academic plan. This was very helpful for me because I didn’t really have a clue which direction I wanted to go in. I mean I know I want to major in architecture but not what school to do it at. My advisor simply helped me narrow down my choices so that I have better focus on what I need to accomplish while I am here at Wilbur Wright College.
If this wasn’t enough I had a speaker come to my English 101 class and teach us a lot about studying abroad. This was something I was thinking about doing since I have seen a few of my cousins do it and benefit from it significantly. He let us know if we were really serious about studying abroad, how to go about doing it. He gave us vital information like majority of people who are in college don’t study abroad so there are more opportunities out here you just have to look for them.
This was very helpful for me knowing that I wouldn’t be able to pay for it on my own so I would have to get funds for me to go out of country. In conclusion from a lot of activities I was required to do in my English class helped me. English 101 made me do things I normally won’t do like meet with my advisor and assemble an academic plan. This was something I didn’t want to do but needed to do, and English 101 helped me complete this task. Overall everything I have learned throughout my English class helped me take more steps toward my goal to transfer to a four year university.
