But with this particular project, it meant much more then collecting for the disadvantaged, It was about lending a hand and your heart to a community in need.. During my involvement in this fieldwork project I got the opportunity to offer my unconditional assistance for one day in a non-profit making community based project. The name of the project was liberty city Construction, which is being undertaken by a Christian ministry organization whose aim is to improve the livelihood of low-income families through building affordable and decent houses at a 0% interest rate.
The organization founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda fuller has built and rehabilitated more then 100,000 families in need, becoming the world leader in addressing the issues if poverty housing. They work in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all social, economic, and ethic group to expand communities with people in need by building an renovating houses so that everyone can experience God’s love and can live and grow in to all the God intends. For that particular day, three of my group members and I olunteered to assist in the normal working hours to undertake activities such as framing, insulation, window and door installation, painting, tiling, landscaping and other constructionrelated tasks on the new single-family homes. For the four of us this was our first hands on charity work to the community. Deep inside me I had decided to use this opportunity to gauge myself and see how well I can be of use to the community and the society at large. Throughout the day I had a very enjoyable day and enjoyed all the tasks that I got involved in, in fact I did enjoy the same way I enjoy my eisure activities such as reading and playing sports. I found that I can really commit myself to volunteering in community based services as well derive joy from such engagements. I decide that in future, instead of wasting my leisure time in activities that are not beneficial it is good to make use of that time to assist in community development projects. Therefore, the next time I’m to volunteer it is not necessary that I will be doing it for a class, but for my own personal satisfaction.

Being a participant in community charity work projects is a good way to portray ones involvement in community development agendas and a way of representation or identifying with the community. It has been a pleasure for me to learn of charitable organizations such as the Habitat for humanity whose aim is to improve the living conditions of low-income earners at no extra costs. The aim of this organization is to provide affordable and decent homes to low-income earners and thereafter pay for the houses at no interest rate.
In addition, the organization is also concerned by conserving the environment through landscaping environs within the homesteads. Landscaping is an important aspect of conserving nature, especially after construction activities are over to ensure that unfavorable scenes created during the construction period are eliminated. In addition, through planting vegetation and trees ensures that there is free circulation of air, hence conservation of nature.
By doing this, this charitable organization portrays that it is equally concerned with nature conservation alongside minding about human being welfare within the community live. Shelter is one of the basic human being needs hence lack of it or inadequate of it lead to unsatisfactory life. Possibly having identified the inadequate of quality housing within the people of liberty city as a result of their earning power, the Habitat for Humanity Christian organization decided to commence a project that would provide an answer to this problem.

The formation of this Christian organization and its involvement to improving the livelihood of the people portrays that the organization is keen to meeting its social responsibility within the community or society. For the one day, that I volunteered to work for the organization in the Liberty City project I came to learn that for an organization like this smoothly deliver the intended service to the community transparent is a key factor. Transparency will assist those in the anagerial position to focus on need-based problems without being biased. This therefore implies that only those who genuinely require to be assisted benefit from the project. The insight I got regarding assisting the low-income earners through building affordable and decent homes for them by the Habitat for humanity during the one day I volunteered ignited some other thoughts regarding assisting the needy. Immediately after that day, I started thinking of other groups of people who may be in need of shelter yet cannot get it or afford it.
I focused at the elderly, the orphaned as well as the internally and the externally groups of people. These are some of the groups in the modern society who require more help than basically shelter alone. I started thinking of how these groups of people could get access to comfortable shelters, incorporate them back in the society, and start living a productive life once more. At this point I realized that, truly I cannot lack something to over to the world that would change the life of someone.
To me, now the field of offering voluntary services to society and to the world at large is a broad as any other field. For instance, when I thinks of how I can volunteer my services to assist those living in the refugee camps, I clearly see that I can volunteer to give them guidance and counseling to restore hope to them with the aim of encouraging them to bounce back to normal life. At this point today I realized that am very sympathetic and empathetic, hence that where my drive to assist those who are in need emanate from.
